If you invest in a gun and it saves your life, it becomes priceless.

I stopped paying attention to Fool when they started doing pump-and-dumps a few years ago. Meh.
It was fun to read. Thanks for the post.

I just calculated out if I were to sell those Yugo SKSs, I bought in '03 for $100ish each, for $350 now 11 years later that's a 10%ish return. I need to buy more guns.
Unless you're buying Holland & Holland, investing in guns is a stupid idea.
At best, most guns will keep track with inflation.
But even assuming they rose in value at a rate to make it worthwhile, you'd have to buy them by the truckload to be able to turn enough of a profit to be able to make it worthwhile to just cover basic living costs.
Small arms aren't worth investing in unless you're Yuri Orlov.

These days, you can just about rely on politics to jack the price unnecessarily every few years. I made several thousand dollars flipping guns and gun parts over the past 3 years. If you don't think it's a good investment then you're not doing it right. Just ask Great Kazoo...

I see it more of a justification to my hobby. Guns will always have value. You can't say that about too many things these days. Most people spend their money on tvs, fashion, new cars, etc. so like precious metals, it's not an "investment" until things go bad.

Yes!
I sold my old Saiga 12 for $5,000.00 right after Newtown. This is not BS. I took full advantage of the situation. I ended up using the money to remodel my kitchen.

Don't drag me in to your irs conundrum. BUT like most tools guns depreciate in value.
It's not an investment, merely a way to sell, barter / trade an item for one of equal or greater value.
