So, I was given this barrel nut. Well, I better assemble a gun.
seeing as the nut was free, lets see how inexpensive I can make a gun, mmmk?

Is this going to be like the thing where you start with a paper clip, then make several fortuitous trades until you get an entire house out of the deal?

It will probably end up like that, but the goal is to have as little money invested in this as possible yet still have a decently functioning AR to show for it.

Dude. You have the disease. Bad. You probably don't have much time left.

Assuming you don't have any other parts lying around, I bet you can build a functional AR for less than $250
There is a dust cover C clip in my shop. Its yours when I find it.

When I get home tonight, I'm going to take an inventory and see what I've already got on hand.
There are some key components that I already know I'm missing: Mostly, the receivers, barrel, BCG, FCG, upper and lower parts, and.... I think maybe a charging handle.
BUT.. we'll see when it all comes out in the wash.

I have to break this build up into two parts: upper and lower. I refuse to pay for the extra amount of cash for the youtube that will allow me all the extra time to get this thing done in one unedited build.
As such, I've made the upper video, and (love it or hate it) it's being uploaded now.
I'm very grateful to everyone who has donated for this.

I already offered those. and I am in Texas. He didn't want them. Said to PAY IT FORWARD. Another short sentance.

For all parts donations, please PAY THEM FORWARD.
If you're willing to send me a hand guard set, someone else might need them.
I am so incredibly grateful for the support. Let's keep it going by paying it forward.

You are pushing on a t wrench which violates a warning. And you are using an adaptor and didn't do the method 3 calculation to get the proper torque. So far so good though
Major improper tool use. And no safe glasses when hammering ? Tisk tisk
Great video! Huge thumbs up
If I had a couple tools, I think I could reproduce building an upper

two corrections to technique, but 'so far so good' ?

it's remarkably easy. the only hard part about an upper is bad technique. [Coffee]

Nothing but love :D You are doing us new guys a great deal of service with these videos. They are very informative.

After watching, it looks like I could even accomplish building an upper.

Was more of a joke. "there's a tool for evey job, and a job for every tool" so using the punch as a hammering surface didn't seem right to me, but after watching how perfect it works - it's the tool I will be using.
Video is up. You pronounced Arvada like Ar-Vay-Duh. Take it down and start over.

Great video!
Don't discount the value of peel washers for clocking muzzle devices.
Who knew there were "tool Nazis"?
Will all the steps be the same with an ar-10, or will there be significant differences?

the manufacturer of the upper will have their own torque settings for the barrel nut. Things are a little less standard in the short action ARs.

there are a couple things, as far as parts are concerned, but the overall process is the same.
the reason i used Mega Arms as my receiver set is that they lower takes standard AR15 components. it is also cross compatible with BOTH DPMS and Armalite components... make sure you have a matched set (DPMS Bolt and Barrel Extension), but the receiver set can take either DPMS or Armalite.
