View Full Version : Help! Streamlight TLR1 or TLR4?
Want to use it on a Glock19 Gen 4 for home defense. Also would like to be able to mount it on an AR.
I see the TLR1 is just a light whereas the TLR4 is the light and laser combo.
I like the idea of a laser too but other than the TLR1 being slightly brighter, is it that much better to give up the laser of the TLR4?
Do they both fit well on the Gen4 Glocks and are user friendly to operate?

I have both. I like the tlr1 better because it is made of metal. The tlr4 is neat because of the laser, but it is not the one i would take with me in shtf situations.
Thanks, yeah I'm thinking just using it for home defense and range entertainment. I see the 4 is plastic but half of my Glock is too and that seems to be holding up as well as the metal parts. Other than taking it to war, would you assume the 4 would survive a "babied" life? I guess the question is, if my wife dropped it, would it still work?

I have a TLR-1 . While a nice light output wise. I could see how some LE's and citizens have an OOPS when utilizing the light. I do like the light just not a fan of it on a hand gun..On my AR, it's a good fit.
Yeah it seems that the main complaint of the 1 is the weight is a bit much, which I think would be compounded on my compact 19. I think I am leaning toward the 4 but my worry with the 4 is that the controls are not in the correct place and I would have to break my grip to operate it.

left index finger for activation is what i do.
Boom, went with the 4. The laser won me over. Hopefully the wife will be interested and want to shoot more.
It may be too late now but my two cents would be for the TLR1 HL. I found I was less accurate and substantially slower when using a laser. The TLR1 is nice, but for the price difference I think the HL model is very much worth it. In fairness I didn't practice much with the laser so I'm sure some of the disadvantages I encountered could be shaken out with more trigger time.
I have had both a TLR1 and a TLR2HL and prefer the 2HL becuase it's equally as sturdy and the same size, but is 630 lumens and has a strobe function if desired.... it's insanely bright and the strobe is extremely disorienting to an unsuspecting person (my wife hates its).
