View Full Version : Is OD GREEN going out of business?
I heard through the rumor-mill that OD GREEN SHOOTING SUPPLY might be going out of business. I know that they haven't been attending the Tanner Gun Show for the past few months and then someone told me that this is because they are cutting down on their business. Has anyone here heard anything about this?
Nope, haven't heard anything about them closing but I have heard they've always been unsavory anyway, so....

I've been a customer there before....... I wouldn't be surprised,
no, I've not heard anything to confirm that either though.
you mean surplus 5.45 at 1.50 a round isn't selling? but what about the 7.62x54r that is twice the price as anyone else? weird the business didn't flourish.

They've had commercials on 850 KOA for most of the year...guess they wasted all their money on that.

Last ditch Green effort?
Perhaps however it doesn't make much sense that a last ditch effort be spending a shit ton of money on random radio endorsments. There are many better and free ways to advertise these days. But I guess no one could ever accuse the owner of that shop of being a smart businessman.

Boom, headshot!
They were always over priced when I went and looked. Between them and the poor service at 5280, I stopped going that direction when I am over in that part of town.

That is all.
When they go out of business and have a fire sale, we can pick stuff up for just over Gander Mountain prices!

Speaking of Gander, off topic but.... I was there earlier for a transfer, and the sales associate misunderstood me and thought I wanted to sell my pistol to them. He took it to the back, and upon returning comments on the excellent condition and states "we can give you $211 for it" BAAAAHAHAHA! Like new Glock 27 with brand new night sights for $211, yeah okay!

What did I miss, was there some sort of ending to that latest episode?
And as far as OD Green goes if they are staying in business at their current location, their store traffic will take a hit now that 5280 has moved to the other side of Sheridan. What ever drive by curiosity visits resulted from people on their way to the other store will disappear.
I did not know 5280 had moved. You may have hit on the 'why' of this thread.

But can anyone beat Bass Pro selling Glock 17s for $720?

Is $550 for a beat to hell G23 equivalent?

Good point. That could very well be the case.
Won't bother me one bit if OD goes under, lousy selection in guns and I can get ammo for less elsewhere.

They were asking 159$ for a brick of 22 ammo and they are going out of business. Imagine that..
Hmmm.... does anyone think their short term thinking during the panic made them enough money to retire? Because they sure as hell can't make that into a long term business plan. Customers have long memories (at least longer than the panic lasts). There's a fine line between entrepreneurial spirit and profiteering greed. They CHOSE this result 2 years ago.
There sure is a significant difference between having a "capitalist" mindset and taking undue advantage of a tragic situation. Nonetheless, OD GREEN made an obscene amount of money in a short period of time by selling ammo at some ridiculous prices.
BTW, so did CDNN (Cheaper Than Dirt) and they seem to be doing OK.

CDNN is different then CTD. The flip side of pricing is the person patronizing that business, repeatedly. Some people never learn.
its actually a shame they are so insanely overpriced. its hard to find surplus ammo and they had tons of spam cans and such.

USAC is the place I normally check first for 5.45 or 54R spam cans

Well I know it's probably been said already but it bares repeating. This is what happens when you sell out your customer base for a short term gain. What's sad is they where at or above msrp on USED guns when they first opened. So naturally when the panic hit they ate it up. I guess if they only wanted to do sales short term then their plan was a success but in the long term it kind of bit them.

The last time I mentioned how their price-gouging was fucking them and slapping the gun community in the face, I got called a liberal and accused of not understanding capitalism. All's quiet on the western front so far.
Interesting. I went in there once, took a look around, didn't really like what I saw, and left. Online, I could get ammo cheaper anyway. I do like 5280, and most of the time I try to deal exclusively with Gina or Matt to ensure quality service.

Not really. The complaint was about price gouging across the board. The market defines price.
Which has been beaten to death what 2 - 3 discussions ago? If anyone really want's to Rehash it start another thread, Please.
I was there with ya... And you are correct sir. They want to start another thread because admitting they are ever wrong..... Just...... Can't............................................. ....... Do it!!!!! ;)

Market determines price, I was not saying anything to the contrary. Now customer service and supporting your customer base is the key to long term success. As I said in my post if their idea was just to do sales in the short term then they had a successful plan, in the long term aspect it didn't serve them too well.
