I'm not really sure if it was about generations or location, but growing up in southern California in the 90s, all of our neighbors up and down the street were really close. We'd have block party barbeques in the summer, etc.

In Colorado, not so much. We might be good friends with a couple houses down in each direction, but that's it. No unified street or anything like that.

Also, I'm sick of that song being used for synced lights.

My first house/neighborhood was like that. We had some wives that were into the whole block party thing and we had some fantastic block parties. I still think about them from time to time. You have to have someone willing to invest the time and energy into organizing, spearheading the whole shabang. They even got the city to close off the street once or twice. And yes, I know I need to do lights, I have the past 5 years maybe, but I've never been into it. Sorry Clinger, at best I run a string along the eves and call it good.

That's insane. That costs a crazy amount of money... I wonder how they got everyone to participate? I bet it was one guy who was really into it who offered to put up lights for everyone else.

Looks like SoCal, so it probably is someone with a history of lighting, who basically just asked if his neighbors were interested. If they said yes, he probably gave them instructions on how to set it up, unless he did it himself.

At least we have lights up. I think there are 3 houses within a block that have them.

Meh. Its cool they're all synced up and I can appreciate the work that would take but it makes me want to have a seizure because it's so cluttered/chaotic. 10 pts for technical, 0 for style.

I'm not really all that festive this year. And I think all of my Neighbors are Liberals. As a matter of fact, I assume everyone I meet is a liberal until they prove to me otherwise.

I'm the only house on my block with lights up. Sad, but most folks are too old too lazy or work too many jobs

That's hilarious. I have some new lights set up on my stage at school... I barely know how to turn them on and change the color. I'm totally impressed with the folks that put those house shows and stuff together.

OP - Video is awesome!

That's my excuse, I have a day job (teacher) a night job (musician) and then odd stuff here and there. Rarely time for house stuff...

NFWIH I'd ever attempt sync'd lights and music. No. HELL no. I hate just putting basic lights up, it's a huge PITA.

A few folks out here decorate tastefully (1/3), a few folks (my 1/3) don't decorate outside, all the rest but one have extensive displays and one guy is competing with DIA for largest glow on the prairie. I can see the glow from more than 5 miles away.

All the flashing lights reminds me of trip to CA in the early seventies, we drove thru Las Vegas about 4 AM and as we approached we oohed and ahhed over the lights.

I don't want to pay to buy the lights, or take the time to put them up, or down. I sure do love Christmas though.

My family hasn't even decorated for the past 7 or 8 years. Most we get is a tiny wall mart tree on the table in the living room. [Coffee]

That would be nice. I've been reading the manuals and using google-fu but... Maybe I just don't understand English anymore. I contacted the installer, they came down once and spent about an hour with me. Went through so much and took so many notes that I can't reference back too. It's not a fancy system, no moving lights or GOBO's or anything. I just can't never seem to program them to the faders, etc. If you want to come down some time and teach me, that'd be awesome, but no rush. I can turn em on and manually change colors at least. HA!

I was at Home Depot and a customer had plugged in his Smart Phone to a bigger unit than this.

Our street has a lot of Christmas decorations and lights. I'd love to join in, but the only electrical outlet we have outside is in the back of the house.

We've got a lot of stuff on our list of things we need to have done to the house, so an outside outlet is pretty low on the priority list.
