View Full Version : Lowers?
Hey guys are lowers for AR's hard to buy now? I built my BCM a few years ago and remember seeing them always for sale on sites like arms list. I am getting the itch back for another build and was just wondering about the difficulties in getting a lower now since chicken pooper
Nope. They're everywhere. Just pick one up from any local dealer.

Pick your fav and order it. All the parts I want but can only afford tiny bits at a time ALWAYS SEEM TO BE IN STOCK UNTIL I SAVE LONG ENOUGH TO BUY IT. AAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGH.
Ok good, I was just wondering. Thanks for the info. What was the law change in them? Just the mag capacity?

You won't see too many in the gun classifieds because they're so cheap from retailers now. I suspect most people who want to sell one paid far more than what retailers are selling them for these days. You can buy a good quality AR for under $500 now.

Lol, that's the reason! Ok thanks guys. I haven't looked into prices at all. I just remember earlier when people were selling WASR's that I would buy for 400 and selling them for 1200! I even saw a couple complete lowers go for 550!!!

Yeah, that's nonsense. You can find a lower pretty darn cheap these days: http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/lowers.html

Those palmetto stripped lowers are even on the high side. There are many non-blemished lowers available for well under $50 right now.

And industry partner Ark Tactical has Aero Precision lowers on the shelf locally in many different finishes for a very good price.

Saw a single stack thumb hole at the gunshow this weekend for 650. 1200 for one that takes regular mags might be a deal.

Anyone who pays more than $4 - 500 for a WASR is high. Vendors on line are pushing AK's OTD for $3 - 499.

I just get 80% now.
Anyone know the best deal for an 80% and a jig to go with it? My dad and I are going to try finishing one as an x-mas project. He's got a lot of wood/stone/metal work experience and a pretty decent shop in the garage. Obviously since its just an 80% lower we're looking to save money and don't want to spend $300 for fancy stuff, but at the same time we don't want to spend dirt-cheap to get an 80% that has some of the most difficult/treacherous parts untouched.
I paid twice as much for my 80% lowers than I did for regular complete lowers last year. Seems like a tough time for 80%. How much are 80%ers going for right now?

I use the easy jig. It's the 'fancy stuff' version at $150. In my opinion, its the beat way to complete one without a mill.

The billet lowers are going for around $100, forged, you can get around $75 or so.

I need to talk to mods about commercial status. Then I can post some good deals here. Hopefully I'll get over the jet lag soon enough. ;)

I've had a few 80% lowers for a over a year now that I need to finish, but I don't know where to finish them. I don't even have a drill press. [facepalm]

Alright so I've done a little shopping. Does anyone have any experience with these companies or have any suggestions?
Here are the 80% lowers and jigs that I'm considering:
Ares Armor - [$135 Jig] http://aresarmor.com/store/Item/TACMHAR5 [$90 Lower] http://aresarmor.com/store/Item/TACMHL15
80PercentArms - [$150 Jig] http://www.80percentarms.com/collections/lower-jigs/products/80-ar-15-easy-jig [$120 Lower] http://www.80percentarms.com/collections/lower-receivers/products/80-lower-receiver-type-iii-hard-anodized-billet-ar-15
They also have a substantially cheaper drill-press jig: http://www.80percentarms.com/collections/lower-jigs/products/80-ar-15-jig
ModulusArms - [$200 combo jig/lower] http://www.modulusarms.com/universal-ar-15-jig-80-lower-receiver-package/

Ares Armor is so high on the ATF list, i wouldn't even mention their name in a gun forum.
I know this is a crap post, so sorry in advance.
I bought this jig, and a portion of material had to be machined off before I could use it, because it did not fit the Shadow Ops 80% lower I bought. I don't have the jig at the moment (I don't even know where it is actually), or I'd take some pictures and show you what I mean. It's no big deal at all since removing material from the jig is the same thing you're doing to the lower anyway. Sorry I can't be more specific at this time.

I went ahead and just ordered the 80percent universal easy jig & 6061 raw lower. The 7075 was 4-weeks out from shipping while the 6061 was in stock. (the jig is 2 weeks) so it's going to be cutting it close to get it in on time while I'm visiting my dad. Oh well, should still be good!

Raw lower? is that an 80 % or the one you need to drill everything including opening up the buffer tube area then thread it?

Raw refers to the lack of color anodization. I think I'm going to find a place to cerakote it OD Green or something. Maybe white! (winter gun, woefully coopted by hunger games : \ ) we'll see. It is *NOT* the $30 brick of aluminum that is 0% finished hehe.
Raw...as in "in the white". Unfinished metal surface. No coating, treating, etc.
ETA: I really need to quit walking away before hitting send.
They were early shipping my jig.
Take a shop vac. And rather than plunge cutting the last bit, I drill the trigger hole FIRST so i dont have to deal with the router hopping around.
