I typically go to ponds or the reservoir around my area almost every other day. Where are you located?

Since you won't put your location in your profile and didn't put it in your post, it makes it more difficult to advise a good fishing location for you.

I have always had great luck with fishing @ Skaguay Lake - just past Victor. I ALWAYS catch my limit within an hour (this is the only place I'll practice catch & release - so I can keep fishing). The lake also has pike, but they aren't as large as you'll get at a bigger lake.

Not only do I always catch my limit there, but the landscape is really beautiful as opposed to places like 11-Mile Lake which is just ugly and I never catch anything there (there are really big fish in 11-Mile, but most folks I know don't catch much there).

bass are plentiful everywhere in the denver metro right now, trout are always biting on something.

If your ideal location is to pull something in every few seconds....
Fort Carson has some ponds down range that are heavily stocked.
You will need a state license as well as a Fort Carson license available at the MWR office on Fort Carson.

Particularly North Side Reservoir has abundand small bass. (some as small as 2") Fishing from shore on the west side under the tree, 20-30' off shore a small fly like a mosquito will keep you very, very busy.
It is a great place to teach kids to fish or fly fish. You can catch a fish every 5-10 seconds all day long.

Townsen Reservoir has heavily stocked trout with some older broud stock. Rainbows as larger as 24" can be caught.

Again if catching soemthing every few seconds is your ideal location.
There is also Brush Hollow near Florence.
North of the boat ramp, before the shore starts to turn westerly, in the shallows (under 4' of water) there is again tons of small bass and crappie. There are also some juvinile cats on the bottom. I usually catch fish in the 5-12" range every couple of minutes on worms there. If trout is more your style, the water inlet on the south-east side is full of sitting trout at about 20-22' of water.

If you are looking for keepers, I am NOT you man for info. I don't keep fish, just enjoy catching and releasing.

Good info, thanks.

Anybody have similar info on the Denver Metro Area? I would love somewhere close to teach the girls (5&7) to fish and keep their ever so short attention span focused.

I forgot to add...somewhere that allows bait is a plus. I'm not a bait fisherman, and I can't even seem to catch anything with it when I try [ROFL2], but my oldest daughter has cerebral palsy, and can only use 1 arm. She can't hold a rod and reel at the same time, so spin fishing is out. Fly fishing might be a possibility in the future, but she is very uncoordinated now.

if trout is your thing you cant beat crystal resivior on the pikes peak highway. They stock the shit out of that lake.

rocky mountain arsenal is a good time also. the spillway at chatty and about a mile or so down the river are very nice for trout right now, green rubbers, senko's, and flies.

not too many exciting places around town for kids, the metro spots that are easy access get blown out pretty fast.

if you are up for a little drive (bout 45 mins from denver) cruise up golden gate canyon to kriley(sp) pond, throw on some power bait for the kids. i pull out stockers on almost every cast with my fly rod and a black woolybugger and nymph dropper, while my GF knocks em dead on worms and power bait.

They may have changed it, but back in the mid-90's you had to attend a class to obtain the Ft Carson license. This was mostly to teach folks when and where they could go... to avoid getting shot at by tanks, etc.

The fishing is good at Brush Hollow, but I caution you on two fronts here. One, bring and use plenty of insect repellant. Every time I've fished there the mosquito's have eaten me alive. This is especially true in/around the rocks on the dam side. Secondly, there are rattlesnakes down there! I had a woman from work who didn't notice the rattler that coiled up just a couple of feet front where she was sitting. She was afraid to move. Her husband eventually snuck up and dropped a bowling ball sized rock right on the snakes head. We, (they and I) are a lot more cautious there now.

Very true ... In the '90's.

Now they just hand you a large packet you are required to read as you pay for your down range license.
I used to hunt down there too, but registering your guns with the Provost Marshall never really gave me a warm fuzzy.
I also always got nervous bringing guns on the Post. Afraid some MP or civi guard was going to think I was up to no good as they were searching the vehicle for explosives.

On hot days like it has been, the best time to fish is with a fly right at sunrise as the fish surface. As the day heats up the fishing seems to really slow down.

I've never been skunked throwing a fly into surfacing fish at sunrise.

speaking of aurora resevoir... I dove there (scuba) and there is nothing but a mostly mud bottom with a few plants here and there in the shallower waters. If you like crawdads, I've seen 'em upto small lobster size I poop you not. Visibility is subject to run off and activity, and usually not that great.

ChunkyMonkey

Grab them next time... we'll do crawfish cook out!

PS.. we ll be at the bear creek reservoir today til about 4pm or so.

Ordinarily I'd say that a good crawfish boil would require LOTS of crawfish ot make it worthwhile, but what he's saying about the size of those things, it sounds like a lobster (or "lobstah" as they say in Boston) bake is more in order!

Crawly-dadys, are best eaten when deep fried with a great batter mix........as for fishing Rampart at Nicholas was a great fishing spot yesterday morning, had my limit in a 1 hour and just keep throwing back the small ones Until I ended up with all of them over 12"

we used to catch crawdads at Bear Creek Lake at the inlet, they were 6" to 8" long. then we'd take em to this bar and race em on the bar till the boil was ready to let em swim,,er cook in.

They are great, have less of a fishy taste to them than most freshwater fish. My favorite is trout and perch though..... then walleye

You know the trick to rid off that fish/soil smell is to keep them alive in a bucket for few days. They detox themselves w/ the clean fresh water.

Walleye, Wiper, Bass and Catfish out of Pueblo are great eating.
The Trout don't taste as good as 11 mile but there ok smoked.
This is a good time of year to shoot the Steel shoot on Wednesdays evening and get in some fishing in the evening.

Lakes are boring.... You did ask for stream fishing for big trout didn't ya? First check out this http://www.coloradofishing.net/ft_slammin.htm and then if your ever around Summit County try the Blue River early morning right in town (Silverthorne) or move down towards Green Mnt. Res. Also check out Roaring Fork, Fryingpan and Fraser. I've caught a few big Browns in the Blue. My brother likes the Colorado up by Kremmling where the Troublesome comes together. Good Fishing !
