I know there are a lot of cops on here. There is new threat specific to Colorado cops. I find it worse that veterans are being pulled into this. The two sides of this need to build bridges not tare them down. This is out of hand. We need each other. It looks like they got the guy that posted it but who knows if he was alone.

http://www.engadget.com/2014/12/24/google-youtube-comment-arrest/#continued

A Colorado man named Jeremiah Perez has been arrested for a comment he posted on YouTube, threatening to kill "retired helpless cops," which Google itself reported to authorities. Mountain View called up the FBI in San Francisco after someone with the username "Vets Hunting Cops" posted this comment on one of its videos:

SINCE DARREN WILSON our group has killed 6 retired sheriffs and cops......because of this event we will hunt two more in colorado this week.....for every innocent citizen that cops kill WE, VETERANS WILL KILL RETIRED HELPLESS COPS...COPS ARE THE REAL ENEMIES OF FREEDOM LOVING AMERICANS and TIME TO STRIKE BACK IN ALL OUT WAR IS NOW.
Darren Wilson, as you know, was the cop who shot 18-year-old Michael Brown in Missouri. The FBI tracked down the commenter's location using his account, and then scoped out Perez's residence for a day before the agents obtained a search warrant. They determined that he was the one who posted the comment after looking through his computer, where they also found search terms like "Kill Barack Obama" and "Hunt Darren Wilson's Family."

To be clear, Perez was arrested without incident: He admitted to posting those threats, but claimed that he never intended to follow through. According to the US Attorney General's office, authorities figured that he knew law enforcement agents would eventually read the post, and he intentionally wanted to scare them. US Attorney General John Walsh also said that people other than Perez posting comments online threatening to kill police offers should expect to get "some very serious attention" from authorities.

This isn't the first time Google's reports to authorities have led to an arrest, though. Back in August, the company's child-porn detecting technology spotted incriminating images in a user's Gmail account. People were worried that meant the tech juggernaut was looking through everyone's emails, but Google maintained that an automated system was responsible for the discovery, and it couldn't actually parse users' conversations.

The biggest problem i see with this is retired cops are the generation I like the best. These are the guys that actually used judgement and a ton of second chances. I for one an thankful that I grew up in that era. This crap is gonna disenfranchise the cops that do care. Much like the political scene, everyone worth having in the field is gonna pass on the job. Then nothing but the guys with nothing to loose.

Thinking that retired cops are helpless is further proof of his ignorance.

I hope there are no more of Perez' ilk...but I also know that there are some sickos out there. :/

I support our community of LEOs and hope and pray they all return safely home to their families. Be careful out there- the crazies are out in full force.

As Jaden Ramos, the 13-year-old son of Rafael Ramos, wrote in a heartbreaking Facebook post about his dad:

“Everyone says they hate cops but they are the people that they call for help.”

Leo brought this on them sekves. I don't want anyone of them hurt but I'm hoping that with all of this turmoil they will change as a group how they interact with Americans. Please stay safe and enjoy your families today. Merry Christmas

For the past couple of weeks KYGO has run PSA's for kids LEO's have encountered that need help with Christmas. Ironic how these communities focus their efforts on hating LEO's. Contrast that to the community in Utah that came together to provide a Christmas parade for one little girl and how the outpouring will be helping others.

Maybe that is the problem and not LEO's.

Someone Other than the Station Pays for / Sponsors the PSA's

I dont think LEOs are the problem. Dirt bags and legislators are the problem.

I'll agree and leave some other post alone.

I hope this isnt take wrong but...

Cops arent under fire, cops arent being killed off in any great number. Clearly I dont want to see any Good LEO killed. I dont want to see any Good Person killed.

[snip]

IMHO, there is a difference between a campaign to deliberately harm LE and statistical hazards of the job. Anyone who signs up for the job accepts a certain level of risk. But the idea that LE will be/could be intentionally hunted, harmed/killed, is downright evil.

I hope you are right and it's just hype.

We are really lucky to have most of the sheriffs departments we have in this state. I can count on one hand the jurisdictions I wouldn't want to live in. I think it's important for us to be supportive of our good agencies and folks even in the face of hype and loud voices (both in the real world with Democrat politicians and cowards on the internet).

WTF? So I put on my uniform everyday and somehow bring this on myself? Dude, get a clue... You do realize most interactions don't end with complaints or people feeling wronged by the police, so not sure how we need to change how we interact with Americans.

Guys, both sides have been wrong and right on this issue. The crux of the problem is painting with a broad brush. Not ALL cops are bad as not ALL protestors/people are bad...... Both have their bad apples that ruin it for the rest. The people are afraid of the cops because they keep killing unarmed people and getting away with it (Ferguson:maybe[still have questions, probably never answered]/NY:cop was wrong/Chicago:cop was wrong/Brighton:cop was right...... All of this just my opinion, which I am entitled to). There is not enough independence in cop shootings and sorry the whole grand jury thing....... Not working. The more we see of the current process the more it shows how inadequate that process is. Too much control from the Cops, DA and secrecy leading to a fox in the hen house condition thus community mistrust. Cops are also using "exigent circumstance", lack of warrants (this issue is not just local it is Federal down to local) and "we don't know enough" as a common battle cry/defense instead the rare call. All of this breeds mistrust within the community(s) and thus the protests. Now on the protesters side you get SOME looters and jackasses (I was amazed at the restraint of the cops in Brighton when the idiots threw firecrackers, real testement to their professionalism). Nobody is defending these actions. This does not make ALL protesters "scumbags" and "thieves" as has been seen so often in posts from cops on here. You also get the crazies like what I started this thread with. It is insane to even suggest "hunting cops". The crap in Pennsylvania and the two in NY was sureal, I was glad they caught him, and don't want that coming here. I didn't want cops here caught unaware and hurt. A big difference between these two sides is that those doing wrong in the community are usually caught, that is what cops do to keep us all safe. That is not what we are seeing when there is a bad cop. The cops on here and 'out there' need to be getting off the "cop bashing" diversion and calling all the protesters lowlife's. It is good that those "bad apple cops" are called out and they should not be protected by the "thin blue line". It does a disservice to the rest of the good cops. This would also build trust with the community which lessens the fear already built up....again on both sides. Both sides need to chill out. Both sides have those within their respective groups that have "brought it on themselves" and defending them makes you one. All sides need to work on building the bridges and get away from the "us" vs "them". We need each other. The community needs cops.... Cops are screwed without the support of the community.
