I think I'd like a plain-Jane 6.8SPC upper for hog hunting. Probably shooting the 85gr TSX.
Stag and Rock River each have a $525 offering.
The Stag looks promising with its 1:11" twist, but the Rock River has the presumably more-desirable mid-length gas-system.
Any suggestions either way?
I would use your 260 unless you just want to spend money...

I was seriously eyeing it.
The "problem" is that at ~12lbs and 43" OAL it's not exactly "handy".
I was thinking a basic 16" 6.8SPC upper with a Cavalry Arms lower would be closer to 8lbs and 34".
For comparison, the rifle I shot @ Johnson 3Gun weighs 7.67lbs with the JP medium-profile 18" barrel, JP forend, TA11H ACOG and Eagle (Cavalry) Arms lower.
I would look at some of the Titan or Bison Armory bbls. Both have proper specs. The titan extreme bbls are DMR chambered and the Bison are SPC II. Both have proper twists. The Titans will be a little more, while Bison has just started filling the void left by Cardinal/Ko-Tonics. Both can build you complete uppers if you like.

Have you ever heard of AR15 Performance (http://www.ar15performance.com/) down in Pueblo?
Yes, they are probably the best spec'd bbls out there but they are expensive for his recons. From what I've heard they are worth it. AR15performace and Titan Armory hooked up and are producing the Extreme bbls as a joint effort. I can't remember the exact line, but it seems something like all orders west of the Miss. River go to AR15Performace and all easy go to Titan. I honesly can remember the exact line, but it's something like that.
There's ton's of info at 68forums about both of them and they are both active posters there. There's also a lot of reviews abouth both of them and Bison bbls from posters there as well.

The HMFIC there, Harrison, shot in the first PD match in Pueblo. He has never come back to a PD match or come out to shoot one of his 6.8s in a rifle match. He lives in Pueblo West...

What do I recommend for a 3 gun rifle?
If you shoot smaller local shoots and they do not use flashers and the RO relies on sight and hearing the ding then a 6.8 could clarify those judgement calls when the steels are out at 200yds or more.

this is the whole thing, wouldn't want anyone to get the wrong idea would we Doc.

Obviously if you are a world class shooter you are not reading the FAQs but if you are just getting in to it for recreational purposes then if the shots are 0- 300yds a lightweight 16-18" .223 with a midlength gas system and a light carrier and buffer tuned to work together. The twist would depend on the bullets you plan to use and any other uses you may have planned for the rifle. I like a EO Tech sight they seem to be a little faster to locate the targets and I usually have no problems connecting on targets out to 300yds. If you happen to shoot longer ranges you may want to consider a ACOG or a low power scope with a wide FOV. If you shoot smaller local shoots and they do not use flashers and the RO relies on sight and hearing the ding then a 6.8 could clarify those judgement calls when the steels are out at 200yds or more. Just not enough time in the day, usually put in 12 hrs a day 7 days a week keeping the cncs going.
I am working on an AR15 in 6BRX for myself though, maybe next spring.

Hey H, glad to see you in the local forums finally! For anyone who doesn't know, I have one of Constructor's 6.8x43mm "recon" profile 16" uppers and it shoots sub-MOA off a bipod with a cheap red dot sight. Great craftsmanship and a final product that I would trust my life to without question if need be. For any high quality AR upper in 5.56, or 6.8, I highly recommend www.AR15Performance.com

Wrong idea? I thought it was a interesting quote that's all.

I like outlaw 3 gun with a mil combat theme, the only place I have shot in the last 3 years was with Tom Brewer in Cortez. High round count and moving pretty fast, some of the helpers missed the hits. A 55 Nosler at 200yds+ makes a little splat the 6.8 with 90s at 3000fps rings the bell.
It may be a little slower but for what we were doing it worked.
