I'm moving back to Colorado to go to school, GI Bill FTW, and I need to find a place to live. What I have been finding online seems to be prohibitively expensive and after a 7.5 year absence I just don't know what areas are good and what to avoid. I'll be going to Mines in Golden by way of Red Rocks and my friend, also a Navy vet, will be going to CU Boulder. Obviously Boulder County and Denver are off limits due to cost and laws. A house will be preferable as I have two dogs and she has a cat. Thanks.
Lakewood, Wheat Ridge. A bit further but check out Edgewater. A few folks one the forum live there, I used to work the area a ton. You are gonna be shocked by the increase in rental cost. Any thing west of Wadsworth is decent. Some stuff on the Lakewood / Golden line is more affordable. I know Edgewater is east of Wads. Still about 30 mins to SOMs.

Doesn't Boulder county still have higher taxes? I guess I was misinformed, that opens up the area a bit. Thanks.

I'm sure if you find some listings and post the major cross streets you'll get good advice.
