On one hand, FEMA and other government agencies encourage people to have bug-out bags and at least a three-day supply of food, water, and other essentials on hand. On the other, those who go off the grid or take their prepping a little too seriously in Uncle Sam's eyes are increasingly being viewed with suspicion.

3 months, it's 3 months supply, even the college radio station's PSA says it.. But yes, once you go over X supplies, you become suspect. 3 months Good, #4 you're on the list. What happens to the math challenged among us?

Never expect a consistent message from the federal government. It is much too large for one entity to know or care about how they are working at cross purposes with another government entity.

It's a matter of normal vs. abnormal. Fed controls the message and masses and therefore gets to decide what is "normal".... Anything against the norm is to be viewed with suspicion because the bottom line of life according to most is - power and control. If Fed can't control you, you are to be dealt with...

I personally would LOVE to have the land, $$, etc to be able to live "off the grid" on my own land where no one ever bothers me....

Colorado.gov says no more 30 round mags. But the terrorists will have 30 Plus round mags as shown in France. Moral of the story, eff anything .gov
They will leave you stranded in a Superdome and confiscate your personal defense weapons. It happened in New Orleans. The truth is seditious.

The .gov is not your friend

Just like the meaning of "concealed carry", how would the government or anybody else know how much you have unless you advertise?

Again, they post it on line asking if XX is legal OR is, this more than the .gov allows?

Sadly, the .gov will never NOT bother you. One way or another you will comply to this or that or be punished. Try not paying taxes for "your" land that "you" own. You will pay or guys with guns will show up eventually.

ETA: I apologize if that came off the wrong way. What I mean is, even if you live live off the grid completely, grow 100% of your own food (unlikely) and supply 100% of your own energy (unlikely), the .gov will be there judging you and overlooking everything you do in some way, that's all. I wish it wasn't so.

Wow. Do people really do this? "Duhhh, can I have 500 lbs of rice stored in my basement legally? I feel like I might be doing something wrong. Will DHS put me on a list?".

Forget it - stupid question on my part. Many people are friggin id-10-t's.

I reference this song all the time when people I manage at work have a problem with upper management policies, procedures, etc. (I'm middle management). I just say "Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, and I'm stuck in the middle with you." Some laugh there asses off, some look at me like I'm crazy. The latter is probably more accurate.

I think I've responded to a similar post of yours, but I'd really like to get to that side of the state as well.

located 4 - 20+ ac properties. While a pic is worth a thousand words. Being on site shows you the meth lab, satanic alter, or about to crumble foundation not pictured.
If there's power, good septic and potable water on site that's 1/2 the battle.

Green acres is the place to be..........

I think the need to fit in or find acceptance/justification/glory leads people to talk about things they should probably keep to themselves a lot of times. There is a lot of knowledge available, and the potential for even more to be shared, on the internet. Problem is it becomes a "am i doing this right, what do you guys think, are you impressed yet" scenario and most of us are guilty of it to some extent or another.

Hey kazoo, there is some property for sale on the edge of leadville. zoned commercial, and right on the river.........when it's thawed there's even fish in there :p

Lol ain't that the truth. I'm sure you could "persuade" the meth heads to cook elsewhere, not sure about the other 2.

Just FYI, 35 acres is the magic number in Colorado if you have a well.. less than that and you get a "household" well permit... limited flow, can't water livestock, etc

35+ acres and you generally get a "domestic" well permit, generally means you can water livestock, up to 1 acre of land (garden?) and limited to 15gpm
(some of the specifics will vary by jurisdiction, or when the well permit was issued- but water issues are a big problem in CO.

On the original topic- everything in moderation... and CIP2

That's the truth. I have been to look at a few proprieties that seemed like a "good deal". You could get septic, water, electricity for $$$$$___, just needs a little work on the foundation and roof and ,,,,
the neighbors all have trash, pit bulls, dead cars, dead lives, .... What happened to the 5 previous owners ? .... ? They moved away ? Prison, rehab, will they will be back to get that dead car, things in the shed and camper ? What about the stray pit bull ?
