This is why I stopped watching unless I have nothing else to do. I still like them but won't give them my time/money any more. I'm sure the players get over it faster than most fans.

I'm a fan and I may be insane (not about any sports teams), I don't really know. But then again, I'm old and I forget things. I would have a burrito but all I have is cold pizza so I think I will have a cup of coffee with 1/2 & 1/2. I just ordered some parts for my AR build and I hope they get here soon so I can fondle them. Aloha Snack-bar!!

I'm not going to get myself down over their loss yesterday, it was a given with Fox as the coach.

Sold my tickets to the game and banked some extra cash. Made my first pork shoulder and had some pulled pork sandwiches with some friends during the game. Enjoyable Sunday afternoon considering the weather outside.

Not the same offense as the beginning of the season and sad to see our D not get any pressure on Luck. United in Blue today but it does not dictate my daily outlook.

I am getting more disappointed with how rule changes and bad calls can alter the outcomes in games this late in the season. Also the chickification makes me sick. Am seriously considering not purchasing season tickets next year but when I can off a couple of home games and make some quick cash it is still a good investment.

A few years ago I would have been watching the TV from the time I got up until the game was over. Yesterday I was up in the mountains taking a Winter Survival Course and didn't get back until half time and only watched the 3rd quarter of the game. Life is so much better now that the Broncos are such a small part of my life.

After a Broncos loss, there are more accidents the next day, and more women needing a shelter from abuse...pretty sad. I like Pro Football, but the money and energy spent on something that produces at a best a negative sum benefit to society...getting harder and harder to be a fan.

What's with all the boo-birds in the NFL? Are some of the home fans spoiled when they boo there home team, or just dissed because their losing big money when they bet on fantasy football or the like?

I am getting more disappointed with how rule changes and bad calls can alter the outcomes in games this late in the season. Also the chickification makes me sick.

The product is getting worse and worse. $0.02 The constant rule tinkering makes it almost unwatchable. At this point, I don't even know what pass interference or a catch is.
I should also say I'm from SE Wisconsin / Packers Shareholder. Loved the outcome of that call, but when I played football in HS, it would've been a catch.
For me, I basically watch GB and none of the other games and even then I DVR so I can go outside and do something and then watch the game fast on my own schedule. Once GB is out, none of the playoffs until the SB.

I don't know, but we (society) don't know how to lose. I think it really ties into the whole "protect this house" mentality that so many NFL fans have. Hostility towards each other. Towards their team. There are 32 teams all full of professionals, all with identical goals, and chances are really good (31 / 32, to be sure) that your favorite won't win the SB. When you set up a "SB or Bust" mentality (as the news had after the Broncos last night), you've largely nullified the entertainment for what it is. As it turns out, the Broncos had one of the best seasons / teams in the league, but watching the news reaction afterwards, you'd never know it. Was it a fun ride this season or not? If the answer is no, probably you shouldn't watch anymore. $0.02

There is a big difference between the players on the field and the chumps in the stands. [Dunno] I'm sure none of the actual players laughed, although there is a great / revealing scene in "Fever Pitch" (I know…) where a diehard fan catches the players out at dinner having a blast after a loss.

I do think the NFL fan thing is out of control. How many teams have undercover cops in opposing team jerseys now?
I can say one evening, probably 3 years ago, I happened to be wearing another team's (again, GB) hat, and it was the breast cancer hat at that (!) coming into one of the more well known pizza establishments on the West Side.
I held the door for some old lady and when she saw it, she actually said something like, "Green Bay? I don't think so!" I just smiled and held it. Part of me wanted to respond, "Who cares what you think?" but I held the door and smiled.
It was more pathetic than anything and reminded me of that old booing woman on the news. Is this where we are as fans?

Copy/pasted my comment from the Broncos thread in CCW forum:

Yup, went to one game this year and decided it'll be my last. Not worth the time/money/effort it takes. Then, you have to deal with all the drunk idiots there. Last time, I got to hear an overweight 40-something year old talk about how he was going to beat some guy up for talking smack all game (he was wearing the other teams gear). I just shook my head and said never again would I support that type of environment.

Im much happier at home with cheap food prices and no bathroom lines.

Add that on top of the fact that it literally has no benefit to my life and I'm happy to do other things on Sundays now. I used to watch the NFL all day on Sundays but now, I'll only watch the Broncos if I have nothing else to do. I still hope the home teams do good but it's a game, nothing else and we treat it as if it's the end of the world. I know lots of people that wouldnt even talk to people after the loss. They just went to bed or asked not to be bothered. So yeah...

Glad I was working during the game, I heard it was awful. I like football (not nearly as much as hockey), but I really don't put a whole lot of energy and emotion into a game played by millionaires, many of whom, despite the ridiculous sums they're paid, cannot keep out of trouble. If I'm going to root for a team it's the one I grew up knowing and loving (Broncos) but I'm not a spoiled fan who throws a fit when we don't go all the way, nor am I a fair weather fan who only likes them when they're doing well. Most of these dolts in the area aren't even real fans. Peyton will retire, we'll struggle for a season or two, many of these idiots will fade away until we pick it back up.

Good on you for working in a women's shelter. If you find it coincidence that DUI accidents are higher on SuperBowl sunday's and that the rear end collisions are up a measurable amount during rush hour after a home team loss, well that is great for you.

Domestic violence related hospitalizations also increase after a major snowstorm, but then that is just coincidence too I guess.

Regardless, people get WAY too wrapped up about Pro Sports.

Easy now. I'm just saying that the myth that domestic violence skyrockets during the Super Bowl is just that. The statistics just don't show that. Never worked in a woman's shelter - don't know where that came from. http://www.snopes.com/crime/statistics/superbowl.asp

I have worked in a Women's shelter and a friend runs one of the Denver non-profits that helps women that are in abusive relationships. I can tell you from numbers and firsthand that it is real. The Superbowl in general, DUI accidents are higher that day, by 50-60% than other weekend days...in some areas, and not always linked to the hometowns.

Emotional involvement, alcohol and a man who is prone to abuse anyway, yeah that is a recipe for an abuse occurrence, or a trigger. I agree that there is no data to support that fact that otherwise non-abusive men suddenly become enraged and knock around their SO due to a football game. But the data that you are looking at excludes habitual abusers and only looks at first time offenders, that is how the original study by the NFL was commissioned.

Are you suggesting that football, pro sports, or specific things on television somehow increase the incidents of domestic violence?

MarkCO

Are you suggesting that football, pro sports, or specific things on television somehow increase the incidents of domestic violence?

Not that they increase the total number (that would be an interesting study, but with no controls, not possible), but that they are certainly triggers for incidents for persons already predisposed to violence. Not that it would not happen anyway with a specific set of people, but that the lack of self-control is more likely to occur around trigger events, Pro sports being only one such trigger. A bad day at work can be a trigger.

I would not ascribe any "trigger" as the creator of domestic violence per se. Reading my first post, it was a bit misleading, and I apologize for that, but I think I have clarified what I mean since.

GilpinGuy

I Googled "NFL study domestic violence super bowl" and found no such study on the first 3 pages. I'd like to read it if you have a link handy.

I have no doubt that some douchebags might go ape and abuse their SO on game day. I just dismiss the suggestion that there is a giant increase, like we hear proclaimed year after year after year, even though it has been debunked year after year after year. A marginal increase? Sure. Just like there is on New Years Eve, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, etc. Holidays (and big sporting events) lead to people drinking, and, therefore, shitty behavior. I don't hear anyone suggesting it's dumb to celebrate Independence Day. But sports fans are demonized every year, and it's always from the feminist types who think we're all violent brutes who pound our chests when our team wins and pound our women when they lose. Please.....I'm tired of that shit. Beating a woman on Labor Day or on Super Bowl Sunday is the same despicable act.

Here's some interesting stuff from HERE (http://psychcentral.com/blog/archives/2010/02/04/super-bowl-sunday-domestic-violence-your-health/) that is no surprise and supports your DUI argument (and I never questioned BTW):

What about other behaviors surrounding Super Bowl Sunday, like driving fatalities? On Super Bowl Sundays, compared to non-Super Bowl Sundays, Redelmeier & Stewart (2003) found a 41% relative increase in the average number of fatalities after the telecast on Super Bowl Sunday.

This shouldn't be breaking news for anyone. Any holiday invites drinking, as do HUGE sporting events. Sadly, there is no solution to this problem.

If Elway does not get Quinn, I will be disappointed. To me, he is the most dynamic and is not a retread. Quinn and Gase with Manning (who only starts say 8 of the 16 regular season games) would be a pretty nice collection of talent. Kubiak should stay a OC for his career.
