sorry this isnt about CCW, but i didnt know a better place to post it. do you have to be 21 in order to open carry? i know you have to be 21 to buy ammo and handguns obviuosly, but I have called 3 different police offices in windsor ft.collins, and i talked to a state trooper, and they all said that i can have it loaded in my glove box, as long as im over 18. but what about open carry?

I don't think you have to, but I wouldn't test that. I'm an OC advocate, but I don't know if any police would be sympathetic to you carrying if you can't legally buy one yet. I do know that you CAN buy a handgun if you're 18, from a private seller though.

I am a proud open carrying under 21 person. I've been pulled over and searched before with it under my seat and the officer just unloaded it and put it in my trunk. Open carry is fine also. If you really want to learn about gun laws don't call the police because either they don't know or, they won't tell you the truth. The day i turned 18 i called up 3 police stations and asked if i could legally own a gun and they all said no. I took there word as truth until a friend of mine set me straight about the laws when i was 20. The only difference between someone 18 and 21 is that 18 year olds can not buy handguns from liceased dealers and can not get a concealed weapons permit. Your fine to open carry and you can have it locked and loaded and concealed on you if you're in a vehicle or house.

Not from me.

Why would you not sell to someone who is legally able to purchase it?

Why did he unload it and put it in the trunk? Did he ask you if he could, or did he tell you?

You should have had a copy of the Constitution ready to throw in his face either way. [Tooth]

When I went through a DUI check point wearing my gun on my hip. They took it from me, ran the numbers, then unloaded it, opened the action, and put it on the passenger side floor board with the magazine and the round I had chambered. I think they probably don't want to just hand someone a loaded gun, even when things are going well, and I'm okay with that.

I've carried my .45 in my car since i was 19, I'm just worried about open carrying in Ft.collins. some of the cops know the law, and are rashional about it, but others are just complete idiots.

Most, if not all jurisdictions, have websites with all their laws/regulations on them. Arvada, for example, lists on it's website that open carry is specifically allowed. Who would have thought?

one of the officers i talked to actually had to putme on hold, so he could look up weather i could carry it in my car or not... thats pathetic.
