Standing in front of a poster of himself holding a handgun in Taken 3, the latest installment in a film series that relies on gunplay to heighten action sequences, Liam Neeson spoke to the attacks on Charlie Hebdo by offering condolences, then saying: “There are too many [bleeping] guns out there, especially in America.”
He said the level of private gun ownership in the US is “a [bleeping] disgrace.”
According to Gulfnews.com (http://gulfnews.com/arts-entertainment/celebrity/liam-neeson-on-charlie-hebdo-gun-control-in-us-1.1439911), Neeson stuck with the American rant, saying: “I think the population is like, 320 million? There’s over 300 million guns, privately owned, in America. I think it’s a [bleeping] disgrace. Every week now we are picking up a newspaper and seeing, ‘Yet another few kids have been killed in schools.'”
Lost in the tirade was the fact that the discussion began with a focus on the attacks on Charlie Hebdo–attacks which took place in France, a country rich in gun control, yet one in which gun laws were impotent to spoil the plans of dedicated and well-trained attackers.
Asked if he saw duplicity in fervently pushing gun control while making a living with a gun in his hand, Neeson said:
A character like Bryan Mills going out with guns and taking revenge: it’s fantasy. It’s in the movies, you know? I think it can give people a great release from stresses in life and all the rest of it, you know what I mean? It doesn’t mean [the viewers] are all going to go out and go, “Yeah, let’s get a gun!”

I'm disappointed in his viewpoint, to be sure. I am not surprised. He moved to New York, partly in response to the outpouring of support after the death of his wife. He's bought into he whole "guns are baaaad," while overlooking the fact that France has incredibly strict gun laws. I also think his fear of guns makes things seem even worse in his eyes.
As an aside-
Personally, I think it's pretty immature and repugnant to make such comments about an accidental death. What the hell. Like anyone chooses to die by slipping on a bar of soap, or bonking their head on the overhead compartment of an aircraft, or a knock on the head at a beginner's ski lesson? Bad form! If you're angry about is views, rant on him. Don't make sh!tty comments about his dead wife.

It is a real tragedy that so many of our citizens can be so influenced by a mere actor. I guess as an actor, they can be good at their profession and still be a first class ass with their personal opinions when they attempt to sway opinions of the common class (us). That bastard!

It is a real tragedy that so many of our citizens can be so influenced by a mere actor.
Unfortunately, I can't find the clip on YouTube but I've often felt the most ironic scene in any movie was in "Gettysburg" when Martin Sheen (as Robert E. Lee) exclaimed (with no small amount of surprise or derision), "an actor? We move on the word of an actor?!?"
I stopped going to the movies during the Clinton era. There are not that many good movies anyway, but hearing all those actors testify before congress, "I was a farmer in a movie so I am qualified to testify about farming and make more laws regulating it . .. " was over the top.
I make sure to watch on cable so even if its a good movie, the actors aren't getting rich from me. F-- em!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a Canadian made Para P-10 Warthawg that the gunshop salesman suggested against but of course I bought it anyways and wished I never would have. I could not sell it in good conscience so I sold it as a parts gun. Now back our regularly scheduled Neeson thread.

While watching American Sniper, I kept thinking about the resemblance of the Nazi propaganda film that was in Inglorious Bastards. The message is of course different, so don't go thinking I'm anti-American Sniper. It resembled that fake propaganda film in another fake movie, but so what? There are only so many ways you can show someone shooting a bunch of people as a sniper. Seth Rogan doesn't strike me as a historian or anything, so he was probably thinking of the same thing I was.
