Just another reason to carry at home. This guys reaction is what 99.9% of gun owners would be.

3 shots short of a Bill Drill.
Wow that was an intense video! Glad he was able to protect his loved ones.
Skip the comments on this one. Trust me. Your head will explode, and nobody wants that. I read them, so you wouldn't have to. That's just the kind of guy I am. Move along.
I bet that guy felt like such a bad ass coming through that door. Whoops

Meth is a hell of a drug.
Hollow doors are very common due to affordability.

How The Shining should have ended.
The homeowner needs a bigger gun, better ammo, more shooting practice/training, or all three. The maggot shouldn't have survived three shots IMO.

Pistols aren't death rays, and we (I?) shoot to stop the threat, not kill. I've got HST'S (excellent ammo) in both my carry 9mm and my 45, and I'm willing to bet he'd survive with 3 shots center of mass from either of them.

sitting at home with my gun at my side right now. Totally agree with carrying at home.

I am a firm believer of having a loaded pistol handy in all locations in our home, especially while I have my rear end parked in my recliner. Problem is my hearing has been damaged by a lot of gunfire over the years so I wear the big ole pair of Sennheiser earphones while watching TV. I doubt if I'd be able to hear any law enforcement people make their announcement prior to kicking in my door - NO, I have not done anything illegal to prompt their smashing my door. So, I'd sure hate to see some person in a black ninja type suit sticking his head in and stare at me holding a .45 aimed in his direction.

I don't require extreme comfort while lounging around, so I'm typically carrying my IWB rig until I go to bed, always armed at home...

I always have something very close by if not on my hip. You never know when bad news will come knocking.

That door would not pass code here, appears to be an exterior common corridor as such it would require at least a 20 minute fire rating. Hollow core wood doors do not have that rating. Definitely substandard by current codes.
Maybe that's what the neighbor was trying to show them by kicking in their door so they would know it'll never protect any occupants in a fire. And the poor guy got shot for his efforts.

Yeah that wouldn't be enough material between me and the rest of the world to feel safe, ever.

Yes, we shoot to stop the threat. But that doesn't mean the threat should easily survive it. Pistols may not be "death rays", but they don't need to be considered substandard either.

Okay, so what caliber/bullet combination is not considered sub standard to you (serious question)? I guess I'm not exactly sure what you are expecting from a service caliber pistol? One shot stop? Hydrostatic shock?
From the sounds of the video, the pistol did it's job, it incapacitated the perpetrator, and kept the victims from being harmed. He may have tried to get up a time or two, but he was down and hurting, some perps don't go down and keep attacking. You seem to be under the impression that service caliber pistols are much more capable than they really are, this is just one example of why shot placement is king, and even then there are no guarantees.
Interesting video by the Idaho State Journal discussing the incident with the Bannock County Prosecutor. The prosecutor stated the obvious that having a gun saved these people's lives. Nice to hear from an official such as this.

The nut job only got 15 years for 2 counts of attempted murder and 2 counts of aggravated assault.

How The Shining should have ended.
Winner!
The worst part about this video was having to listen to the injured cockholster on the floor moaning like a cow in labor for 3 minutes...

A threat hopped up on meth, heroin or other chemical has little or no idea they have been shot. Their CNS doesn't even register pain. SO short of cutting them in half with 8rds of 00, or slugs. I doubt there is a ideal all scenarios, death dealing caliber.
The whole video seemed strange to me. First, I am wondering why the camera was pointed at the front door? Then, the part where the guy with the gun opens the door with pistol in hand just seemed like a bad idea. Almost like he was looking or hoping for some sort of confrontation.
I don't know. The whole thing was just kind of weird.

I was thinking the same thing Ray.
Chilling video. I have my Zombie Exsanguinators near me and my carry pistol on me at all times. And everyone, save 4 people in my life are assumed a zombie until proven otherwise.
Don't forget those 3" deck screws on your exterior door hardware folks!

I'm thinking they had cameras set up due to the previous break in by the same assailant.

Fine. I'll give them that. But the part where the guy opens the door with his pistol in hand seemed like a bad idea.

Agreed. opening the door was bad from a tactical standpoint...probably not as bad as having a hollow core door as their access door, though. The guy went through it as if it was paper mache.
And yes, 3" deck screws in your strike face and hinges are not going to help if you have a Gingerbread door.

This.
Think of it as a matter of degree...add 3" deck screws, (got that), then something over 32 caliber, (got that), then the trophy wife with her 870 Remmy, (got that), then one of the downstairs guns, you know the drill...then the fact that I'm NOT playing to some camera, set up ahead of time, and then the fact that "most" of my neighbors aren't miscreants...Yeah, I think I've got this covered.
