I’m looking to build up two new ARs, one now and one over time. The first one will be 16” midlength (already have the upper) and the second will be 18” rifle length. These will be mostly used for plinking, but will also use them to try my hand at 3gun with a red dot on the 16 and a 1-4/1-6 scope on the 18”. Does it make sense to put the same length FF handguard on both, ie, 12” on both or 15” on both, to have the same grip? If some, what would you go with, 12” or 15”? Neither will have iron sights.

I vote for the same length on both. No need to have different holds on both of them. It will make transitioning from one to the other more natural.

As far as which length, that's totally up to you and what you prefer.

ALG makes a 13" EMR rail.
I have one, just waiting to put the rest of the stuff together.
Its going on a 18 inch rifle gas

I'm looking at the Nordics. Midway has them on sale.

A lot of three gunners like to have the support hand out there quite a ways. That would indicate a longer forearm.

I like a longer forend on my guns. As long as possible depending on barrel length. Helps with a consistent hand placement gun to gun & helps protect the barrel. At this point there isn't much of a weight penalty between an 11" and a 15" either if you go with one of the slicker versions like a Troy Alpha.

Thanks for the input, fellas. I bought a pair of 15" versions.
