From Lantac's Facebook page:
Lantac USA is sad to have to make this post A one off Titanium EBCG LanTac Carrier, the only one in existence was stolen from our booth during show hours! It doesn’t get much lower thank that. The Ti EBCG is the LanTac Pat Pend Forward porting BCG, the lower one in the pic without the forward assist serrations. If anyone can give us information of the whereabouts that leads to the return we will give you a reward. San Tan Tactical just called and added two matched billet sets to the reward. I love you man! Please can everyone post this everywhere! Thank you to the FB community for your support.
Keep your ear to the ground.

Don't ever buy in to crowd funding FFL's on social media, for the latest in high end innovative firearms. OR group buys when there is no product in hand. Just saying.

I don't know if I've ever seen an example of the former. I probably wouldn't do it anyway, mostly cuz I'm a cheap-ass.
so, 60,000 people walking around. only 1 in the world part and its not secured? what could go wrong? tons of these people arent in the industry. even if they are, why would you leave the only known example of your work unsecured?
Guerilla Advertising?
I can't believe that people never learn from the past. Back in the day just something as simple and inexpensive as a key to the gas station bathroom was protected. They would attach the key to a small piece of chain and attach the chain to a hubcap from a 1958 Cadillac. If you don't learn from history you are doomed to repeat it.

I think someone forgot it in the hookers room after doing lines all night and is trying to cover it up with a theft story!

It must have been a real shiny part.

They don't have plans/drawings/etc to replicate it?
Either way, what's the big deal? If anyone else on the market comes up with anything remotely similar, then the investigation takes care of itself.

Lol. I'm picturing their high dollar, one of a kind BCG with a chain and a hubcap hanging off of it.

I know how they smuggled it out, I watched "The Interview"...
With the vast majority of the attendance at the SHOT Show being "Average Consumers" why wouldn't you expect things to get stolen? Especially in the chaos of people crammed into that venue. There is a reason why most of the manufactures have their shiny guns and parts tied down to the displays.
I think that in this instance, its probably more of an intentional "Look at the bad thing that happened to us" type of marketing. The cost of that one off Bolt Carrier is a drop in the bucket compared to the expenses of hosting a table at the SHOT Show. And as others have already said, its really not a "One Off" if you have the plans to make another one. That and its a bolt carrier, how much special top secret widgets or features can you sneak into that simple part that haven't already been done a thousand times over already?

Um, there are already parts on the market with these features...
SHOT show is expensive, and even if it cost them $1500 for the one off, it is small potatoes to what SHOT costs them. Still, my money is on a airsoft copycatter or a direct knock-off somewhere in Asia...in which case when some idiot buys it off ebay for $150, his gun will blow up. [dig]

It's so weird to me that someone who attended SHOT show would thieve. If it were an open gun show, I wouldn't be surprised giving that a lot of the riff raff slip through the cracks (see: Tanner). But for industry invitees to resort to this kind of behavior is sad, man.

Don't be naive... Will Hayden could have attended (maybe not this year), but he was "in the industry"

Point taken.
60K people this year (83K last year) and there are really 5 big groups at SHOT.
1. Exhibitors. Their goal is to SELL their products to buyers, most of which are gunshop owners, range owners and purchasing agents for the big distributors, retailers, and Big Boxes. This group might make up 10% of the attendees.
2. Buyers. Their goal is to secure deals and product to sell at wholesale and retail to consumers. The big guys get sit down meetings with the big manufacturers, some of who sell 60-70 percent of their annual production projections at SHOT. This group makes up about 40% of the attendees.
3. Press/Media. The only large group of people who get in for free. Half of them don't shoot and of those who do, half have an axe to grind because they did not get a "free" gun or knife or gear to demo from a manufacturer, so instead of telling it like it is, they pan the companies product in the press. Some even get asked to stay out of certain booths due to their nefarious reviews. This group is about 5-10% of the attendees.
4. Celebrities. The top shooters from all disciplines as well as TV show hosts and factory pro staff for the companies and hunting shows are there in force. There are also TV/Movie/Music/Pro Sports stars brought in for booth and party appearances. Maybe 5%
5. Lookies. If you have a online store that sells one pocketknife a year, you can get in to SHOT. Most go and wander around looking at all the cool gear, getting selfies with the pro shooters and stars. This group is about 30% of the attendees. There are always some in this group who get their credentials revoked for carpet bagging.
One can go as a non-exhibiting manufacturer, representative of a LEA, etc. There are also undercover ATF, IRS and local regulatory agents running stings, two of which I happened to see. Then we have the hired glamour girls, grips, dock workers etc., food vendors, etc. many of which have full access to the exhibits. I walked into a few booths, with unsecured firearms, and there was not a single company rep in the booth. Of course, all the firearms have the firing pins removed (they catch a few each year who did not) and have to be checked in an out by the show armorer.

It's funny you mention that movie but I was going to bring it up for other reasons. Terrible movie that was sure to be a flop ends up being all that anyone talks about over some BS about being hacked. It wasn't pulled over a BS hack and was pulled with this story to fuel a fire to spark media to talk about their stupid movie. They did. Everyone watched it. It sucked. Credit them for turning a loss into a financial gain at the expense of the American people's gullibility.
Now, with this BCG, part of me wonders how much of an 'Innovative and one of a kind BCG' being stolen is legitimate. Seems fishy and I was the first person saying that 'Balloon boy' was hiding at home when the news cameras were just staring to chase the balloon. Everyone (about 15) at the table at Buffalo Wild Wings looked at me like I was crazy. By the end of lunch they were all onboard and the world found out shortly thereafter that he was hiding in the garage... just like I said.

Which group where you in markCo?
:)
Actually, this year I went on an "NSSF Guest" pass since I run the Rimfire Challenge World match for them. I was pushing the match and meeting with Corporate sponsors for same while filling in meetings with my sponsors. Had a meeting with Benelli since I am running their match this year as well. I purposely keep a low profile (no match jersies), jeans and a polo, and I still got stopped by a few people wanting a picture or to chat. 20 hours of meetings in 3 days...I came home and did not want to say a word most of the weekend.

Maybe it's ...a guerilla advertising tactic! Kinda like this...

Is LanTac (http://www.lantac-usa.com/) an offshoot of LanWorld (http://www.lanworldinc.com/)?
Their billet upper looked familiar, so I compared it (pics) to the ones LanWorld sells from Hera (German import). Looks the same to me.
Up until recently, LanWorld sold a lot of AR accessories from different manufacturers. Their website now only shows Hera parts.
I've used Hera uppers and handguards on a couple of builds and am very impressed with their quality.
Just wondering.
I do not know, but I have since heard of two more parts they have ripped off of others. A lot of people in the industry think this whole thing was a stunt.
Last time I was at SHOT, someone picked my pocket. Borrowed a buddy's credit card to get home.

Same thing happened to me around the office kitchen table at work... I looked at the balloon for 5 seconds and said, there's not a kid in it... he's hiding somewhere, probably in the closet or attic.
