I'm partial to 22-250. Anyone have something they like better.[Beer]

Before you ask yes I know this is subjective.

Caliber or cartridge? 22-250AI works for me. But then I like 17hmr too. Kind of a loaded question? What is your game of choice?

Varmint?
Depends on your definition.

Prairie dogs.... 22lr
I know, I know, but I have killed waaay more prairie dogs with 22's than anything else.
Not as fun as the louder guns but definately cheaper to shoot.

coyotes... 223, 22-250 and 6x45

Foxes and bobcats... 221 Fireball or 17 Remington

pigs..... 45-70

Most vamint hunters will have at least a 22lr and a 22-250 and/or 223
As the black rifles have become more accepted in the hunting world the 223/5.56 has started to rule the roost.

I prefer coyotes the rifle was a 22-250 AI I went to the 22-250 after replacing the barrel the second time it last longer. I have a carbon 15 I use for prarie dogs. Never tried the others... one day I will.

204

The pdogs that I hunt tend to be skittish and you cant get closer than a couple hundred yards. Too far for 22lr. 22-250 works really well but recoil is much higher. I have a hard time telling the difference between a pdog thats 350 vs 375 yards away and the 204 lets me get away with a lot given how flat it shoots.

I shoot a fast-twist 22BR, but I'd been thinking lately a 243 / 6mm has a lot of potential.

Plain old 223 in a bolt gun. You can shoot the bullets plenty fast with almost no recoil. Bullets and powder are cheap. The round is easy on barrels.

Once the critters get out there past 500 or so I use a 6-284 or wait till another day.
