Firearm in car and houseboat in California

My lady friend desires to move to a docked sailboat in CA for a whole year. How does she go about taking her firearm in her vehicle and then into the boat? She will not carry it around but leave it in her boat/home for the duration.
Any lawful responses appreciated.

X2 Calguns is the place to be for all California firearm issues. I would think the boat would be considered "domicile", but who knows around there.

CADOJ AND CALGUNS have the answers. ALL FIREARMS must be stored in a locked container, box etc. SEPARATE from Magazines & AMMO. MAGAZINES can not hold more than 10 rounds. Once in a dwelling, the rules for home storage apply.

We just did a tour of CA. Kept Long guns in storage safe locked. Mags for long guns were in an ammo can. The handguns were in a separate ammo can whick was kept under the seat. With the hand gun mags in center console. NOW heres the thing with hand guns. The CADOJ says must be in Locked Box , container , etc. What we did was use on of the plastic ones (pictured & linked) enlarged the hole where a lock goes through, to accept a combo lock. The lock was kept at the last digit of the combo, SO... For all purposes (Visible) it was secure. BUT allowed with a quick snap of the lock to be accessible. We kept a copy of CADOJ Firearm transportation with us. This way IF an issue arose we could show the law was being adhered to.
Not once were we hassled or felt like having CO plates was an issue. Did we follow suggested speed limits [LOL] BUT Guns were kept secure, according to CA laws. The one time i got stopped was let off with a warning and told to enjoy our stay.

One thing: After 1 month of residence you are considered a resident in KALI and must register your Firearm, register your car, and so on. The key is to NOT be a resident.

KALI consider you a resident if you work and have a lease in the state. Renting a mooring can be considered a residence.

When I moved to KALI for a year, I got rid of my long gun, and only kept cali legal pistols. I was able to go to the range every week, and never had a question from anybody.

Not at all. The having 4K of ammo with us did present some logistics as we had a full vehicle. It's playing the game and working around their requirements that was fun.

FWIW: We stopped in to a TURNERS Outdoors while there. To say they had an impressive amount of what everyone outside CA believes is banned, was interesting. Granted the average price for a basic AR was $1299, Tavors $2599, Bennelli M4's $2400 etc. Ammo shelves were full.
We took lever actions, 9mm carbine's and a few G 26's.

I asked the spouse if she thought we were taking too many guns said. AFTER FERGUSON, FUK NO.

I agree. But Denver has similar designs on your gun rights.
HOWEVER Like CO, the large urban PROGRESSIVE enclaves screw it up for the rest of the state. IF, IF CA was NFA Friendly, we'd be gone........................... Especially the area we looked at. We can get 10ac with 1400 sq ft home & irrgation rights for under $200K . Having our kid and her boyfriend friends with 5th generation like minded people doesn't hurt either.
We have framily [facepalm]going from the NV border to the coast in a somewhat straight line through central CA.

For what? CADOJ dictates SAFE STORAGE . The city can impose more stringent laws as well as penalties . Storing firearm separate from ammo & mags in a secure , locked container is fairly universal when traveling cross country, IN STATES that do not have CCW reciprocity.
