RIP Dakota

Lost my lab today, he had been suffering from some neurological issues and today I ended his suffering. God this sucks so much I am a mess, my other lab is is mess. He died peacefully and looked like he does after a hard day of hunting.

He and my other lab were my hunting partners for many years, biggest heart and loving to everyone. You will be missed you beautiful dog.

All dogs go to heaven and you are free from your suffering now...

So sorry to hear this, ducky! It's certainly hard to fill the gaping hole left by that sort of loss. I refuse to accept the fact that my pup is not going to live forever. [Cry]

I feel your pain. We had to put our Lab down several years ago due to age and increasing to multiple seizures daily.
Your post brought back a flood of memories. Good thing I quit drinking years ago.

Damn. And you're dealing with plenty of other crap right now too. I know none of the other stuff holds a candle to the loss of your boy. I'm so sorry. He's not hurting anymore, and he's running & swimming and bringing back the best ducks ever. RIP, Dakota. You got me all teared up in the middle of a restaurant.

Sorry to hear the news. It's really hard, but thank you for making the tough decision. Fortunately you have those wonderful memories that man's best friend provide unconditionally. I've outlived a number of great dogs and each was special in their own way.

Any plans for a new pup in the near future?

I don't want to think of how I'm going to feel when moose moves on.

Your pup pup was loved. Sorry to hear about it.

'There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent; her eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.'

Chokes me up just posting it.

Sorry to hear the news.

I'm so sorry that you had to go through that, and that you've lost one of your best friends. It's one of the drawbacks of being grown up and having to make terrible decisions, and this is one of the very hardest. May your heart's ache ease with the knowledge that you gave Dakota a wonderful life, and you and your family had the priceless years that you did with him.

Is it allergy season already?

I hate reading stuff like this but reading your words shows how much you loved him and he obviously shared that sentiment. Find solace in the good times and the hard times will get better. Eventually.

RIP Dakota. I'm sure you've found a little white bundle of energy up there by the name of Gixxer who's already showing you the time of your life.

It's threads like this that shows how human we are. It is one of the harder decisions we have to make in our lives. We have to remember how good of a life we have provided to our four legged family members.

Condolences

Condolences to you and your family... It's amazing how God made these animals able to bond with us humans: they're called "nephesh" animals. And as such, they do become part of our family, literally, so when we lose one, the loss is the same as that of losing a loved one of our family, or even more because they often don't talk back, argue with us or act rudely! As a friend of mine often says, if God wanted to just have companions, He should've stopped after He created dogs!

I wanted to thank everybody for the kind words and condolences. Helped a lot, i am still heart broken, but time heals. I had Dakota cremated and will scatter his ashes in some of my favorite hunting spots with him.

Thanks again
