When I was bored, rather than to continue to annoy anti's on Facebook, I started researching big bore uppers... 450 Bushmaster vs 458 Socom mainly, but then searched up lr308 calibers and found 45 Raptor...
it's not AR15 compatible, but LR308 (ar10 DPMS) compatible... Basically it's a .460 S&W Magnum rimless... too long to fit in AR15, but .2" shorter than .308.
Impressive ballistics, and if you get/have a .460 Mag revolver, you can get a conversion & moon clips to use 45 Raptor in it (same clips will also support a bunch of other cartridges of different lengths)
I've not bought anything in 450BM or .458SOCOM, so I'm considering this instead... because damn. http://www.45raptor.com/45RAPTOR/
They have barrels, bolts, kits, mags (don't see 15rnd versions)for LR308 platform are available.
This page shows a clean hole thru 3/8" 500 Brinell steel, as well as DRT hog (semi-graphic): http://www.45raptor.com/45RAPTOR/performance/
One reservation I have is that they used .452 bullets, (thinking you can swage down .458), and they limited case to 1.8" for Indiana huting regs (which I don't give a rip about) I wish they had a 458 Raptor version... but compatibility with .460 Mag could make .452 attractive for some- and the ballistics are impressive- not sure how much more you could accomplish with the AR platform (bolt thrust, etc considered)
I couldn't find another thread on this caliber here, so I thought I'd start one.
Revolver info:
Tom at TK Custom, he has indicated that it will shoot the following rimless cartridges that have a rim identical to the 45 ACP
45 ACP
45 Win Mag
45 Super
460 Rowland
451 Detonics
45 Raptor
On top of that it will still shoot the rimmed cartridges below...
45 Long Colt
454 Casull
460 SW Magnum
ETA: the upper won't shoot the 3 above calibers, just clarifying that a revolver cylinder modified to allow the above 6 with moon clips will STILL support 45LC, 454 and 460 Mag)
