View Full Version : Funny the little things you find
When you're looking for something else.
I was digging through some boxes I haven't looked through in probably fifteen years. Looking for some patches from my dad's Navy uniform. Couldn't find what I was looking for but found these things.

One of my grandfather's hunting knives, two live rounds of 50 cal black tip (AP) ammo, two 38 Special rounds with "Spokane PD" headstamp, a piece of 30 Herrett brass and one "dummy" round of that caliber, a speed loader for a J - frame, and one round of 357 Magnum that has some dark family history that I am not going to share.

Happens everyday to us seniors !! I even found a Laser Strike recently [Beer]
Seriously though I found my Dad's marriage license recently. 1944 at Camp Grant in Illinois-very cool.
I have been there, back in early 90's I went to visit my grandmother on the family farm in Nebraska.
While there I was told she had found a box in the bedroom upstairs with a bunch of stuff that was mine from back in 80' when I stayed with her before my dad got custody of me. In it was some old magazines, some cloths and a jacket. In the jacket pocket was a an old R2-D2 and Han Solo figurine. :)

Those things might fetch big money these days.

I think I gave it to my cousin who ended up buying the family farmhouse and making its own. Who knows what he did with it.

When I was little I had about every original Star Wars action figure, ship, etc as well as a ton of GI Joe/Cobra. Most of the action figures ended up facing a firing squad from my bb gun when I was a kid [facepalm] I wonder how much that cost me in 2015 dollars?? I also shot up some some old NFL bobbleheads, those probably would have fetched a fair amount as well. I wish I had a hot tub time machine so I could go back and beat my own ass for it...
I hear you. Most of my toys met a tragic end as well.
Recently found some old newpaper clipings my grandmother saved from 1939, beginning of WWII, has a wanted dead or alive posting for Hitler. 1944 when the Italians strung up Mussolini and when Rudy killed Oswald. I am framing some of them. I will have to post pics soon.
Ducky, your story reminds me of the story my dad told me about when he was in Italy near the end of the war. He said the Italians hung Mussolini outside of a gas station and left him hang there for a least two weeks. I always thought that would be a strange thing to see everyday.
