No, it wasn't in a BUG match I shot the J-frame, but in SSR. It's something I've been wanting to do for a while, especially since I carry it regularly, so I did it. Now, it's not something I plan on doing on a regular basis, but once in a while, maybe a time or two a year, is fine. The only concession I made to competition was to swap the boot grips that came with the gun (a pre-lock model 642) for Pachmayr Compac grips (or stocks, for you purists). Sure, a no-shoot (or was it two?) got in the way, but that wasn't the gun's fault. Anyway, I'm glad I did it (I mean used it for competition, not hitting the no-shoot(s?).

What about you? Do you carry, and if so, do you ever compete with what you predominately lug around?

BTW, how about that weather today? I think that was coldest match I've shot in yet.

I've always competed with my carry gun. Gives a certain amount of confidence. Probably misplaced confidence, but still.

I shot my 686 today. Fun match. Even though I was shooting at my normal speed, my accuracy was there. Even hit that 20 yard plate on my first shot.

With a J-Frame today would have been a tough match.

I carry a J-Frame (38 Special +P) on my ankle or a 1911/2011 (38 Super +P) on my hip. Both are very lightweight and I have no interest in competing with them. Makes my hands hurt just thinking about 100-150 rounds in a day. I train with them often, but thats about it.

Its a good thing we bagged the rifle side match. We would have been snowed on. Good call on Micks part.

I've only shot my carry gun in BUG matches, but it may be my new primary IDPA gun when the new CCP (Compact Carry Pistol) division gets going. I don't shoot IDPA for training purposes. Its pure competition for me, and I'm only interested in running the most competitive gear in any given division. My SSP gun is part of my HD ensemble, and my carry rig is a smaller version that fits nicely in CCP.
