"The homeowner confronted the escapee, called 911 and ordered him not to move. But Bieluch didn’t listen and began moving toward the homeowner. The man fired multiple times, striking Bieluch in the leg at least once."

Oh, boy. I'm getting tired of reading this stuff. C'mon, people! PRACTICE! You're giving us all a bad name.

Rant over...going to the range.

Thought the word "end" would imply something a little better, oh well at least the guy got caught.

OK, Wyatt Earp.

My take... We really don't have any idea of the conditions under which the homeowner fired at the man. Maybe one, or both, of them were moving. Maybe it was in a poorly lit area. The bottom line is a regular Joe Citizen used a lawfully owned handgun to capture a criminal and didn't get hurt, nor did he hurt anyone else.

I'm really failing to see the problem here. I say good for the homeowner.

I was at a range one time, met a retired cop doing some running/draw/fire drills. He offered me a chance to participate. Not having had any training at that time, I thought "how hard can this be?". Well, panting, out of breath, adrenaline pumping, I couldn't hit the side of a barn.

Reminds me...I'm overdue for another training class.

didn't kill him, but I bet it surely did hurt. I took a long distance ricochet from a .22. heard it whistle, saw it bounce in the dirt way in front of me 2 times, bounced off my collar bone, then bounced off my neck. It felt like someone hit me with a ball peen hammer right on the collar bone. my neck was bruised there for 4 days.

That reminds me, I need to fire up that old computer, and get those pictures moved over.

I took a fmj of some pistol round in the leg at a 25-yard indoor range once. I also took some shrapnel in the throat at a match that drew blood, but neither one left anything past a few minutes worth of pain like above.
