View Full Version : Grippy spray on coatings for a cheek riser?

I'd like to find something to coat cheek risers to make them a little bit grippy. The parts are plastic and are on a Magpul PRS and an AICS.

There are a lot of products that look like they should work, but I was hoping someone here had already tried it.

I have some grip like rubber tape in a large roll you can have Tim but it may be too aggressive for your face. Your willing to try it. Must softer than sandpaper for sure and if you don't like it peel it off

Just my opinion, but I think that might be a mistake..... I can see a grippy surface causing abrasions to my tender face under recoil..... Might be wrong though, but I'd proceed with caution and not do anything that couldn't be undone.

Maybe try adhesive felt or thin foam (that's what's on mine) and just don't shave for a few days.

Send XLR an email and ask what they use. Maybe they will sell you some.

You could use MoleSkin. Self adhesive stick-on. Real comfy on my AICS. They come in tan (flesh-tone), but I have heard that archery stores have them in different colors including black.

Might try one of the car stereo shops. They might have some adhesive backed rubber that they use for sound deadening. Might work well.

Good idea. Or use some of that Dip-It liquid rubber. I used it on 2 plastic butt pads with good results.

I know I like a grippy cheekpiece. I have one, and have tried others.

I was thinking about plasti-dip or rattle can pickup bed liner. I have some truly industrial double sided tape as well if I could find some thin textured rubber.

Hadn't thought of moleskin. I have a lot of that lying around.

I've used the Pacmayer Pac skin with good results,it is not an aggressive finish but it does give you a semi-soft nonslip surface.

Could you use one of those pads that hold your cell phone to the dash board?

I've sprayed my stock (& gun) with the textured/fleck stone Krylon for a better feel. It's held up well in all kinds of weather and feels about right for me.

I was thinking tool dip. Off the shelf spray in bed liners might be too rough and hard.

Foam tape? Something like two sided tape.

I bought a spray can of Plasti-Dip at Lowes. I have three coats on now, but it's slow drying. I'll report in tomorrow.

Maybe something from the automotive world? I'm thinking about flocking my aics cheekpiece or wrapping it in alcantara or something.

This is flocking btw. (not my pic)

what about a basic felt pad? Would be softer on your face, but still provide what you need? And could be taken off if you don't like it.

it's only $4

I like the way the plasti dip turned out. I'd been shooting all these guns for years, and all I really needed was a bit of grip. Cushion wasn't high on my priority list. I'll try them as they are and consider some sticky back foam I bought from Hobby Lobby if I still don't love it.

I got down behind them tonight, and now I'm really happy with it. It feels like just the right amount of extra grip to keep my greasy face from sliding off.
