View Full Version : What's your favorite AR stock? and irons?
So I'm at the stage where I am trying to decide what buttstock to get. I just ordered a 16 inch BCM hammer forged pencil barrel to add to my build and a BCM Gunfighter grip. So far run of the mill upper/lower, 15 inch MI handguards and 16 inch BCM barrel.
For a stock I was originally thinking of a Battlelink Minimalist, then I started looking at the Magpul UBR (I like the idea of the cheekweld remaining consistent regardless of the position of the stock), then again.. I'm sinking a ton of money into this build so far and maybe a simple (ie cheap :D ) MOE stock would be just fine. One thing I may keep in mind is to check how it feels once the barrel is mounted to get a feel for how it is balancing and then see if weight will be an issue.
For Irons I like the idea of the simple Daniel Defense fixed front and rear sights.. Anyone have any feedback on these? I'm not thinking of an optic at this point so I don't think I need a fold down option.

Consider the build with an optic, since everyone adds some kind sooner or later.
With the light weight barrel something like the UBR might make her a little heavy in the ass. Personally, I'd stick to something light and simple. I'm partial to the VLTOR Imod myself. Although the new Magpul SL and the BCM Gunfighter stock intrigue me.
The Daniel Defense sights are excellent for fixed iron sights.
And don't buy into Kazoo's theory. He's not getting any younger and his eye sight probably isn't what it used to be. I love fixed sights on the AR platform. As long as you can see your target, hitting it with iron sights out to about 300 yards is easy.
Take a look at the B5 SOPMOD. Its light and it already has QD swivel inserts for a sling.
I'm happy with it on a light 18 inch.56859
I find the SOPMOD stocks butt end too flat and straight for my liking. Everyone else seems to like them though.
I prefer the angle of the Imod. It seems to roll up into my shoulder better. The Magpul SL seems to have a similar angle to the VLTOR.

I helped a buddy build a rifle over the weekend and he went with the Magpul SL There is absolutely no slop in the stock. The only thing I saw wrong was that the retaining spring that locks on the buffer tube marksthe tube up. No big deal if you view it as a tool. I would go with the Magpul SL for low cost. However I have a few ARs and they all wear UBR's.

Magpul CTR
I really like my UBR paired with a recon profile, but my pencil barrel 16" has a CTR.

MagPul CTR...
Daniel Defense BUIS.... they don't break, bend, whatever.
I've got some Magpul furniture, and I've got a Battlelink Minimalist stock. I really like the Battlelink. I think you'd be happy with it.
B5 SOPMOD is my vote as it is light and the minimalist style would fit well with what you have going. I just bought a Bravo stock and the jury is still out on that one...

Or or did I misread the thread title?

Magpul CTR and Troys for me as well. All my AR carbines are running that combo.
I like CTRs. I have a MFT Mimilist if you want to buy one

Magpul STR or CTR. STR offers better cheek weld.
MBUS work just fine and they are pretty lightweight and strong. Most folks should be able to hit a silhouette at 200yds with MBUS sights fairly easily.

What ever is cheap (to buy not cheaply made) and MBUS.

I like the B5 Bravos. Don't need the storage and a little lighter than the sopmod. Lately been a fan of stock A2 irons. Midwest fronts and KAC rears are on my flattops right now.

Before the floods of 2013, I preferred the Ace ARFX on rifles and the MagPul CTRs on carbines.

A lot of them / us cannot see 200 yds, let alone a target that distance.
Heck, I can do it. We are talking NM aperture and NM narrow front post, right?

I'm liking my colt fiberlite on a LW build lately...
I like the magpul CRT. As far as iron sights, I just found a pair of flip up offset ones on ebay that I liked. hope they aren't crap ones. We shall see
