I want to go....
Arsenal of Democracy:
World War II Victory Capitol FlyoverSeventy years ago, Feb. 4–11, 1945, Allied leaders met at the Yalta Conference to discuss the structure of the post-World War II world. To honor the heroes who fought in the War and those on the home front who produced the tanks, ships, and aircraft that enabled the United States and its Allies to achieve victory, one of the most diverse arrays of World War II aircraft ever assembled will fly above the skies of Washington, D.C. on Friday, May 8, 2015, to honor the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, as part of the Arsenal of Democracy: World War II Victory Capitol Flyover (http://ww2flyover.org/about-the-flyover/).
As part of a thrilling three-day celebration in the nation’s capital, the May 8 event will coincide with a ceremony for veterans at the National World War II Memorial, followed by dozens of World War II aircraft flying in historically sequenced formations (http://ww2flyover.org/flyover-formations/)overhead. The formations will represent the War’s major battles, from Pearl Harbor through the final air assault on Japan, and concluding with a missing man formation to “Taps.”
Thursday, May 7, 2015
Victory Gala at the National Air & Space Museum As a lead up to the Victory Capitol Flyover, a Victory Gala will be held at the National Air & Space Museum (http://airandspace.si.edu/). We will celebrate our heroes and hear firsthand accounts of World War II encounters from the veterans themselves, including remarks by President George H.W. Bush.
The evening will be attended by friends of the aerospace community who share a demonstrated commitment to honoring our nation’s greatest generation. These will include senior military officials, corporate and association executives, veterans and our nation’s political leaders.
Friday, May 8, 2015
