A new leather sling for the M1Garand/M14 is stamped with "MRT 12 86". What exactly do these marks signify?

Bob, from my understanding that marking is just the model/type of sling. Nothing special.

Thanks BB. I had thought the 12-86 probably stood for the date of manufacture (Dec, 1986), but "MRT"?

MRT stands for Mildew Resistant Treatment. The MRT also (supposedly) signifies it is a USGI one
