View Full Version : How sick has your family been this year?

My son caught it bad again this last weekend, and we had to take him into the hospital. Apparently he caught influenza B only 8 weeks after having influenza A, and he was struggling pretty bad. He's home tonight and more or less just "normal" sick but he was over 20 sick days out of school already before this week. Wondering if the rest of the family is going to get sick <again> now. Everybody we know has been sick over and over this year, it's been nuts. Even when everyone in the house is doing well, we're not connecting as often with friends and family because someone in their family is always sick.

I cannot wait for spring to come and burn out all this bad junk.

No regular Flu here thankfully.

Stomach flu a couple weeks back. Son must have brought it home, we both had it within minutes of each other. Knocks the heck out of ya. 6 hours of bathroom activities and 12 hours sleeping after that. Then just being a couch potato for another day. Sucked! But was over and gone pretty quick.

Yea it's been a rough winter.
Just when you think your over it, here it comes around again.
Seems like every other week the kids come home with something. I cant afford to miss work so I take some aspirin and cold meds and trudge through it.
Good old obamacare working- betcha the illegals get top notch treatment.....
Seems like since they started bussing them in everyone has been catching something or other. But that cant happen. I'm sure they inoculated all of them before bussing them in, after all it's for the children.....

We are super blessed to be crazy healthy. I don't know why but my daughter is never sick, like years since she's had to visit doc. If it hadn't been for my hand I wouldn't have set foot in dr office all year.

Im just glad my 1500 per month in Kaiser premiums helps out those less fortunate.

Family has been down with the flu earlier this year. It was so bad I started feeling sick and thought I was going to get the flu for the first time in my life; then it just passed. They are both sick again right now and the same thing happened. I was feeling horrible last night, fevery and exhausted. I slept in this morning and woke up feeling great. Even worked out tonight. I've been pretty fortunate that I only get under the weather while they are sick for a day or two and right when it feels like it's going to get bad, it just goes away.

My little man who turns 2 this month is sick right now! and going to the Dr.'s office is like talking to a wall. They never do anything so i keep pumping him full of natural remedies.. seems to work most of the time but whatver he has now is almost as bad as the RSV he had last year! wife never gets sick... i usually get sick right after the little guy... Vitamins and natural stuff seem to be keeping me healthy as of late and eating better. Nothing worse than a sick kid! I hate it!

I was sick twice this year. First time was some kind of super intestinal hyper virus. Never had anything like it before in my entire life. I did not know if I should be setting on the toilet or talking to Earl. Not good to set there launching pressurized projectiles at all functioning exits at the same time. The second issue this year was more like an extra bad cold. I usually never get anything more than the sniffles. So I agree some wicked stuff is out there this year.

Sick, no one. Buried 3 family members within a month's time frame. Topping off today, it's been 12 years since our niece was murdered. Cherish every day like tomorrow may not come.

Prayers and positive thoughts for your loved ones.

I had the flu that hits your respiratory system on Christmas and a week later for New Year got hit with the flu that goes after the GI tract. The wife had the respiratory flu about 3 or 4 days before I caught it.

The abdominal flu was definitely less fun. I haven't puked that much in over a decade while simultaneously clearing the lower half. This was the reason you keep a small trash can next to the toilet. The intensity of the gut wrenching also gave me an intense headache that lasted for about 10 days. Was somehow able to keep down Gatorade when I couldn't keep down chicken noodle soup. That probably saved me from a hospital visit.

Between the coughing and puking, my abs are a lot stronger now. [Coffee]

Sent from my electronic leash.

Wife and I each had a very minor cold. First one for me in maybe 5 years. Pretty much it...which is surprising since she works in a hospital.

I had a run-of-the-mill cold this winter, but that's it in our house. Pretty amazing with kids in school and we both work in casinos - both of which are germ factories.

I'm fighting a weird bug right now, myself. No GI or respiratory symptoms, but body aches, fever/chills, and pretty exhausted. Hit suddenly last Friday. I haven't missed any work and don't feel too bad, I just don't feel good.

Honestly, it reminds me of when I had cancer. [Swim]

Been miserable for everyone but me so far. Both step kids have had the flu multiple times, wife had the flu followed almost immediately by a nasty head cold for a week, not to mention her slip and fall that broke and dislocated her ankle. I had a chest cold for about a day which the oldest kid caught and turned into bronchitis which lasted a week for him. I've had to take days off work just to help out the sick and injured in my house the last two months. My wife's family in KC and Tucson have had recent medical problems as well, though none flu related.

I've had a pretty healthy run so far but I think it's more due to being retired and having less outside contact. Also living alone keeps the bugs away.

That's horrid! My condolences.

I've noticed a 90-percent dropoff in my yearly colds using this one, simple trick religiously: I don't, under any circumstances, even privately, pick my nose, nor do I rub it with my fingers (if I must, I rub it with the back of my wrist). No one can wash their hands well enough to green light finger probing, so eschew it completely. Now, I'm not saying you do pick your nose, but I'd be willing to bet that a VAST majority of the population does, with predictable results. Just a word to the wise.

No significant illnesses in our house this year. I have had one case of the sniffles that lasted a couple of days, and a little cough that has stuck with me for a few days, but that's pretty much it. [Coffee]

I thought driving a branded vehicle without tinted windows would stop me from picking my nose, now I just want to do it more. Nice reference to those stupid diet ads by the way.

The kids were sick a couple times but overall it's been better then past years. I did get the flu shot this year and have been trying to get more vitamins this year. But one thing I notice is do to some changes at work I have been lucky to not be in as many nasty bug infested houses belonging to undocumented immigrants the last couple years. Their were a few years that it seemed like I was constantly doing work in those houses and I was always getting sick, of course they are always sick when you get there.

i do have the lumber liquidators Chinese flooring so I will probably die of some lung problems or something soon since I didn't wear a mask when cutting all the flooring.

I got knocked back for two weeks with that weird flu bug-morphing-into-chest cold. The cough just hung on and nothing seemed to help.

That's what we seem to have going on 5 weeks because my family like to share. Every time I start to get over it someone gives it to me again

I had the flu over Christmas/New Years and am still coughing today. Not as bad as January, but it won't leave. Doc says it's pretty common for it to last 2-3mo. Ugh.
