Hi all, current AK gunner here, thinking of building myself a nice AR and adding to the collection. My only experience with AR-15's was a Colt AR-15 A2 Sporter II I bought from a friend in 03 that i promtply sold the following month due to rampant malfunctions. I picked up my first AK (WASR-10) at that time and loved the worry free shooting. Since then, i've expanded my collection to a Saiga-12, Saiga 7.62x39, and a Saiga .308.

I had the chance last month to shoot a friends Stag AR, and was surprised by the great feel of the weapon. It was definitely leaps and bounds more reliable than my old colt (though not as "beat the piss out of it and it'll beg for more of the AKs) and slightly more accurate than my .308 Saiga. Since then, i've been wanting to build myself a beginner/entry level/cheapo AR to get to learn the platform.

Hopefully I don't get flamed to hard for my Russian arms preference, and I hope to learn a lot about the AR platform.

Thanks!
DC2BAR

DC2BARI love Russian arms but i am geared towards Mosins.

I see you listed a Saiga 12. I had my first chance to shoot one this last weekend at Rampart Range. (about 30 minutes before the fatal shooting). I was amazed at 2 things (1) how frickin' big the mags were (2) how fast sight picture returned for the second shot.

Welcome, from one FNG to another.

Welcome. No flaming here, but your thread title says something about converting. Why convert? Enjoy the title of being both an AR and AK owner!

I own a lefty Stag - or at least I did before the tragic boating accident -and love(d) it!

Great intro by the way!
