Had a friend out to the range last Friday with a PTI Firearms lower that had never been fired.......bought as a complete rifle at a LGS and immediately the bolt carrier wouldn't go into battery........ popped the takedown pin and pivot pin and pulled off the lower and found a way out of spec hole for the Buffer Retainer and spring......see pix below. At the same time its oblong and oval shape, its actually too tight for the buffer retainer to fit and move up and down. Buffer retainer failed and allowed the buffer and recoil spring to come out of the housing...... Any experience with PTI or other brands of lowers like this problem...........

Did you back the buffer tube out like that?

There are a lot of these that came from CGC...I built a sweet ass upper for my buddy and had the same problem...We tried taking it back to CGC for a return after showing them with a mic that they were out of spec and they told us to pound sand. I ended up taking a round file and got it to "somewhat" fit...

We did pop the pins on the lower, and managed to back the buffer and spring back into the tube so we could separate.........it is a CGC gun with their logo.......I went straight to PTI and one of their people is looking at the pix of the lower I sent.....yes the hole for the buffer retainer and retainer spring was way out of spec, drilled at an angle and oblong, and too tight for the buffer retainer to move up and down under the power of the spring......I thought about taking a file, but since the AR is not mine but belongs to a friend.......
I decided to fight the fight with the manufacturer.........I had read the DEALER AND RANGE REVIEW Forum here, and saw a lots of comments about Centennial Gun Club, and decided it wasn't even worth having the owner take it back to Centennial............this lower is so far out of specs, I cant see how anyone could sell it, but nothing surprises me anymore.....
Did get an email back from PTI FIREARMS, and they seem to be interested in taking care of the customer......at least by first response.........will post updates as they occur......
Thanks for the above comments and posts.........
