View Full Version : Bird dogs at work
just wanted to share some photos of my bird dogs from this past season. My two dogs are Shorthair/ lab crosses, they call it a Hybrid retriever. There are a few pics of my two buddies German shorthairs as well. Some of these are taken at a friends farm in Nebraska and some are from a couple of bird clubs east of town. It is a true pleasure and joy just to go out and watch these dogs work. Not that I would call it work for these dogs, they truly enjoy this.
Nice.. I love well trained bird dogs,
Nice lookin' pups! Thanks for sharing!

Very cool. I think I recognize that house. Is that Steel Fork? I miss her enchiladas...

That is a friends place in Nebraska. We did some pheasant and quail hunting out there.

My mistake. Thinking of a bird club east of the Springs. Haven't hunted upland birds in about 5 years... too long. Beats the hell out of big game for impatient people... [Coffee]
Only thing mine takes down is a frisbee , she's kind of a wuss with loud noises (she wasn't trained as a puppy)

Thats a good looking pup. my white one doesn't have any interest in chasing anything that doesn't have feathers. Gun shyness can be trained with time and patience, I know a few really good trainers if you are interested.
She's old and spoiled now but thanks haha
Awesome. I'm not sure how well my 9 month old GSP will do in the field considering she hangs out in the back yard with the chickens.

Nice honor pics. Nebraska just got hammered over the weekend hope the nests and babies are OK after the bad weather. Seems we need to get some board members together for a hunt. I've struck out twice with Sniper we can't seem to get our weekends to jive. Maybe 2015 will work out.

she would do great. These dogs have crazy ability to know the difference between game birds and non game birds. I had never even had mine smell quail before we went to Nebraska, and when we found a covey it was game over. The dog locked up on point and retrieved very quail that was shot. If you did start her on birds you might just have to teach her that the chickens are not retrieval toys. Hit me up if you ever want to go out to the training field and see how she does. I have access to fields and birds all year round.
SamuraiCO,
Thanks, the black and white dog is a little quicker on the find and ends up pointing most of the birds, and then the white dog who is a little younger is the flusher. They make for an awesome team. I'm always game to do some bird hunting, just hit me up and maybe we can hit the fields.

That would be great, especially if she could go out with another dog that could teach her how to work and not just play all the time.
