I was just at a pawn shop and they had a sign that there was a State BGC fee of 10.00. I told the lady that it had been reduced to 7.00 recently. She commented that it went back up to 10.00 as shown on her computer.
So Did it go up or is this shop over charging?

Thanks
Roger

As an FFL, I am 100% sure it is $7.

More to the point, it is only reviewed at an annual basis, so it will be $7 for a while.

Dear Federal Firearm Licensee,

Colorado House Bill (HB) 13-1228 requires that a fee be collected for firearm background checks prior to a firearm transfer by a Federal Firearm Licensee (FFL). This law went into effect on March 20, 2013. Based on estimated expenses and projected firearms background check volume, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) initially set the fee at $10.00 per background check request.

This fee is reviewed by the CBI on an annual basis to determine if any adjustments are necessary. Adjustments to the fee may include the projected number of background check requests, changes in staffing levels to meet expected demand, or IT system enhancements that are needed in the operation of the InstaCheck Unit.

Upon examination of expenses, the CBI has determined a reduction in the fee is appropriate. Therefore, beginning Sunday, March 1, 2015 at 12:01 A.M. (MST), the CBI will reduce the fee for a firearm background check from $10.00 to $7.00 (USD). This time frame will allow FFLs to modify their point-of-sale or internal enterprise accounting systems. Any firearms background checks processed prior to this date will be assessed the $10.00 fee, including the February 1, 2015 through February 28, 2015 transactions listed on the invoice to be mailed the beginning of March 2015.

i don't have a problem with any company charging whatever they want. Then the customers can choose to shop or not. but when they post it as a state fee, they are crooked.

My last transfer cost $17. $7 for Lickenpooper and $10 for the FFL. Can't beat that! Unless they do away with it altogether.....

I got no problem paying whatever the ffl wants, but if there going to lie about it they wont see a dime from me. Doing paper work sucks so if they want a few dollars for there time I got no issue with that just be up front about it.

There should be no background check fee, just whatever the ffl fee is. And we should be able to sell FTF again too!

I like how they are changing things up as they please. I'm all for removing this BS fee, but I will take a lower fee for now.
