Polymer 80 build 911

Hey guys this is my first post. I am building my first AR10. I decided to use a ploymer lower. Specifically the WarrDogg from Ploymer 80. All was going well until I tried to instal the front pivot pin. The spring was protruding past the front of the receiver by about an eighth of an inch. I tried to drill the hole a bit deeper to accommodate the standard AR15 spring. The drill bit came out the side of the receiver. Does anyone know how to repair this screw up?

Maybe melt the hole with a soldering iron?

If you want my honest opinion I'd be happy to give it. Just don't want to come across as some kind of asshole.

This isn't my area of expertise, so take what I say for what it's worth - little more than a barely informed opinion.

I have little faith in the stability/strength of polymer lowers. I know some folks swear by them, but I've seen a few that exploded in a .223/5.56 application and just don't trust them. If your building your AR10 in a standard .308 config, there's a lot of impact and pressure on that lower. Now, you've got a polymer lower with a weakness drilled into it. You could try getting the hole filled, but it'll never be as strong as it was originally. You've got to ask yourself how safe you think it might be and what your safety is worth.

That's sort of where I was going to go. I was going to suggest ditching the poly lower and going aluminum. There are decent receivers out there for not much more than you paid for that polymer one.

Why not tap the hole that shouldn't be there and insert a set screw?

Set screw probably wont work because the drill went thru the side but its the most solid fix. Heat would work. As would replacing the pin to a unit that has integral detents and then you dont need the spring or detent.

Hey gang! This is the first time I've been back since posting. Sorry for the slow response. I actually filled the exit wound from the drill bit with JB Weld. After that I discovered another screwup. The spring pocket for the safety did the same thing. Polymer80 sent me a second chance unit for $80.00. It showed up with the same two issues. I sent them an email. They told me to either dust the spring or try to drill he whole deeper. I told them I wanted to return it for a refund last Thursday. They have gone silent. Humph!
