The folks i know / restoration charge per hour on serious body work. They do give a "rough" guesstimate and call If and When it goes over said "ball park" figure. IMO $1k isn't too far out of line, but to epoxy it ??

I've seen body shops epoxy panels before, even after being specifically instructed to weld. What's up with that?

As you know we can/have installed alot of pans, on restored Camaro's, Chevell's 55' Belair's etc. WELD.

Unless you have something sentimental, or extremely rare, I'd look for a more solid car. Body work is super time intensive to do it well. Or for that money you could pick up the Miller Autoarc MIG and have at it. That welder has an automatic setting that is amazing.
