Can't believe no one has started this thread yet. No fight fans?
Opinions on sagging popularity of boxing?
Huge purse for both fighters?
they should have fought years ago
I'm not much into boxing but would probably watch this one if it was free.
My guess is the fight will go the distance and go to a controversial decision and there will be a second fight with a lot more hype and publicity so that all of the parties involved can make even more money.

I could watch it for free but I won't, it's just not what it used to be to me. And the amount of money these clowns make is so fricken ridiculous I can't even think about it. But good for them.
I'm interested, but I won't pay for it. I will probably watch it the following weekend for free just to see how it went down.

Mayweather is a jackass and I hope he lets beat. That about all I got on the subject at the moment
I get it for free, I'll record it just to fast fwd at 4x or 16x and if there is a knockout, I'll rewind for a min or so. If it goes to the cards, see who wins then delete the fight. I want manny to win
If this fight was 4 or 5 years ago I think it would be much more exciting. Given their ages now Mayweather's style holds up a lot better over time. His MO is to out last his opponent and capitalize on the mistakes his opponent makes. Manny will try to end it between rounds 9-11 because he knows he won't win on the scorecards with the high percentage of punches Floyd will land, both jabs and power.
I get it for free and I won't be watching it. Boxing has never interested me.

CNN had a report that they are expecting PPV is going to be very low for this fight. Too many free ways to get it. Then Showtiime said they were really going to crack down on piracy of the fight. Good luck with that. Maybe if they had a more reasonable price, and did not get so greedy, people would pay for it rather than find a free source. I will be watching it for free of course.

Anyone see the training vids on ESPN, Pac man is 2x's faster then May.

At $100/ticket, I can't blame em.
I'd definitely watch it for free. How exactly are you guys doing that, or shouldn't I ask?
Not interested, but I hope Mayweather gets the snot beat out of him, the arrogant self-righteous prick.

I grew up as a boxing fan in the 80's, used to love watching the fights with my dad. Back in the day there were some great fights, Leonard/Duran, Hearns/Hagler, hell I used to be one of the biggest fans of Tyson before his complete collapse, even though his competition wasn't the best that guy was a beast. I'm with most in that this fight should have happened years ago, the fact that it took so long to get here is just one of the shining examples of why the sport has fallen to the wayside and been passed up by UFC. Way too much bullshit with the sport brought it down. I would watch the fight if it was on ESPN or something but I definitely won't pay for it, maybe would have back when the fight should have taken place not now. I miss the days of looking forward to watching a good fight, if anything this is just a sad reminder of what used to be.

How do the odds work? Am used to 3-1, 9-4 etc.
Pac man wins by TKO before the end of the 10th round. Doubt I'll watch it, probably be working

At home, it's discounted for us, but not free. Most of us can just go to one of the offices and hang out though.

-210 on Mayweather means that for every $2.10 you bet, you win $1 if he wins.
+170 on Pacquiao means that for every $1.00 you bet, you win $1.70 if he wins.
So the negative numbers are the favorites.

Last fight I bet on was Tyson vs Bruno in 1989.
I went to the local betting shop in Bedford England and put down 10 pounds on Tyson in the 5th
Had to listen to the fight on the radio in the dorm, but I won 80 pounds.
The odds were basically even for Tyson to win in round 1 - 4.
Strange how that works.
Arguably the most corrupt sport in the U.S. is boxing.
I stopped watching in the mid '90s
UFC is much more entertaining and much less corrupt. IMO
Oh, Floyd in the 3rd.

Cheap wager mayweather won't knock him out. Since this is a glock forum. If Mayweather knocks PAC man out I will buy you a glock trigger thingy for the glock of your choice. Trigger thingy covers the trigger guard and made of kydex. If mayweather don't knock him out you buy me a glock trigger thingy for glock 42. Loser cover the shipping cost. You in or out [dig]

I say Rhonda Rousey by arm bar in the first round.

I like pac man for 2 ko's first mayweather then Beiber when he jumps up to defend him.
So...who thinks there will be a rematch?
Pacquiao can move around, but he wasn't nearly aggressive enough. Especially in the last round. At the end, when there was a minute and a half left, he should have just gone hog wild and started throwing punches.

Poor gameplan by Freddie, poor execution by Manny. Priority number one against Floyd should always be to cut off the ring. And headhunting should be avoided. Get him in the corner and work the body; feint high to bring the shell up and get the shoulder roll going, then rip the waistline.
As it was, Manny's footwork wasn't near what it used to be, and he played chase against Floyd. Sometimes guys get aggression and chasing confused, and it bit him. I think Manny hangs it up after a farewell victory, and Floyd probably does the same to match Marciano's record. Of course, he'll relinquish his titles first, so that if he does lose, he's still undefeated as a champion.

What I think people are forgetting is that Mayweather is a Boxer not a fighter. He wins for a reason. He's too fast and knows how to score. Unless your a fan of boxing, this wasn't a fun fight to watch. Mayweather has never been a knockout, brawl kind of fighter. IMO, Manny didn't stand a chance. He is too slow. That knockout by Marquez may have changed him too. Mayweather maybe be a crappy human being, but he is a great Boxer.

No doubt. There's a coorelation where people assume boxing=punching. But boxing is a multi-faceted combination of movement. Arturo Gatti for example, was a great fighter, but he got completely outboxed by Floyd, right along with everyone else over the last 48 of Mayweather's bouts.
Manny was a solid boxer in his own right, really refining himself from power puncher into complete boxer. But he's at the end of his rope. That JMM knockout was really the breaking point, I think.
I think the last boxer that I found interesting was Roy Jones Jr. He was a boxer with the mindset to destroy his competition. One of the few guys I've seen KO guys with body shots.

Fuck that fight, fuck both of those boxers & most of all fuck ALL of their fans. Each and every single one of them. They made the last several days in Las Vegas the worst trip of my life. There is NO hope for America and it's never been more clear than a trip to Vegas filled with TMT fans. I requested a nuke from orbit while I was there but it was denied. Yes it would have been suicide for my wife and I (who were there to renew our vows at the same little chapel we married at 10 years prior) but if you saw what I saw you would understand why the sacrifice was necessary. I've been to Las Vegas a couple of dozen times for several events/occasions & I've never seen anything even close to what I experienced the last four days during this stupid fight. The system has failed and our country is doomed. Period.
I feel for you. Fight weeks are pretty bad in Vegas, but I couldn't imagine experiencing one to that magnitude.

Honestly it was bad enough to ruin Las Vegas for us and there's a pretty solid chance we'll never return. I had planned this trip nearly a decade and we booked it just under a year ago after I recreated the proposal in San Diego (La Jolla) and told her what we'd be doing for our 10th anniversary. I thought it was going to be bad but really had no idea what we were getting into. The idea that there would be tons of people was one we were prepared for. What we weren't prepared for was that that untold number of people would be comprised almost entirely of the biggest piece of shits you can possibly imagine. To call them thugs and hood rats would be a disrespect to thugs and hood rats everywhere. It was disgusting & in all my travels I have never experienced anything like it and words can't even paint the picture of the nightmare we lived the last four days.

Jer, what was so bad about it? I just got back from Vegas as well, had a totally different experience. Yeah, the TMT 'tards were exactly that, and there was no point trying to go to any major location during the fight, but other than that it was fine. We watched the fight with like 60 other people in the hotel lounge... for free... and then hit Fremont St afterward (which was actually tamer than it was the night before).

It's a no win situation for me as there's no way that 1) I could possibly capture the cluster fuck we lived through for four or five days and 2) no way I could possibly come away without coming off as a racist with the things I would say. I also doubt anyone would even believe the picture I was painting to be real. I'll just say that there were hundreds of thousands of people in Las Vegas that were giving an awful name to fight fans and their race.
If this is indicative of fight fans I'll be glad when that sport dies. Think of the most disrespectful, obnoxious, racist, ignorant, loud, classless piece of shit you possibly can and then multiple that by about half a million people all drinking & doing drugs heavily 24/7 and you may begin to understand what we experienced. I haven't talked to a single person that was there that has anything else to say other than mcantar18c which is why I was trying to get details of where all he was because this was the general consensus from everyone who I talked to that was up and down the strip.

You'll just have to picture the worst thing you could be part of w/o physical harm (surprisingly) and then multiply it by three, maybe even four.
This is what I'm confused about. If they weren't raping/assaulting/robbing people, surely it couldn't have been so bad that you've suddenly lost the will to live after seeing the worst of humanity? I mean, I went to Vegas for New Year's and saw the dregs of society too. But short of physical violence, it's mostly just annoyance at foul language and low-class dress. At least for me.
Is Vegas known for attracting upstanding people?
One time while walking around in Vegas some random dudes walked up to us and said, "Do you guys know who this guy is?" pointing at one of their friends. I said, "Nope." They went on and on about how he was the best boxer ever and was up and coming and kept asking if I wanted to fight him. Once was annoying enough, I can only imagine if every other group of dudes was like that.
Hell no, I don't fight. He wasn't even paying attention anyway.

My thoughts
This is what I'm confused about. If they weren't raping/assaulting/robbing people, surely it couldn't have been so bad that you've suddenly lost the will to live after seeing the worst of humanity? I mean, I went to Vegas for New Year's and saw the dregs of society too. But short of physical violence, it's mostly just annoyance at foul language and low-class dress. At least for me.
As I've stated, I've been to Vegas numerous times. I'm not sensitive to the type of people it attracts. You don't have to be raped/assaulted/robbed to develop a negative opinion of a large group of people. A large group that, based on the way they carried themselves and the complete lack of demonstrated intelligence, couldn't have possibly held employment let alone employment that paid well enough to afford the airfare, hotel & food/drink costs that weekend demanded. In fact, I can't tell you how many of them we even overheard bragging about how they don't work and got all their money or money for the trip from: government handouts, illicit drug sales, stealing/robbing and other non-work-related avenues. I was frustrated that a LOT of our friends didn't book the trip for our wedding renewal before the fight was finalized and once it was couldn't afford the plane tickets & hotel let alone the current cost of food & entertainment there. People who have jobs and decent ones at that couldn't afford to go while those who got their money off of the backs of the same workers were living it up like they didn't have a care in the world. If this weekend wasn't a microcosm of how broken the system/country is then I don't know what is. I've known of first-hand incidents here and there and knew things were bad but to see literally hundreds of thousands of them all in one place spending like they had not a care in the world while our friends were stuck at home working because they couldn't afford tickets/hotel that had quadrupled in cost overnight was just wrong.
Still want examples? Fine.
1) renting scooters meant for handicap people for $50 and running them into everyone and not giving a single fuck (that one was non-stop all day every day)
2) trying to run into people walking the opposite direction to start fights
3) throwing beverages all over the place & all over everyone around you
4) shouting EVERY single conversation as if the person they were talking to was across the street
5) 150lb+ (being generous there actually) overweight women with nasty ass National Geographic titties basically wearing nothing everywhere
6) every-fucking-thing smelling like pot
7) blatant racism where black workers would intentionally let black groups of people go ahead of white groups repeatedly and give them special treatment
8) endless disrespect towards my wife, myself and everyone in our group pretty much all day & night the entire time we were there.
There's more but that was at the front of my mind and it wasn't isolated incidents but what was basically just common practice by just about everyone we came in contact with.
I've never felt the need to be armed so much in my life and we left our firearms at home since NV no longer has reciprocity w/Colorado or FL CCW and we had been there dozens of times before and it never felt like that. Ever.
Is Vegas known for attracting upstanding people?
This is exactly my point. If it was our first time to Vegas you could simply chalk it up to attracting a certain type of person and us just not having experienced it before. I've been there. Dozens of times over the past couple of decades and while it has changed over the years I was just there last year & it was what I would normally expect Vegas to be: a place you wouldn't want to take your kids to and expect a lot of crazies. This was SO much worse than anything I had ever experienced at Vegas or anywhere else in my life and I travel quite a bit to all kids of areas. I've been to some shady fucking parts of cities and still didn't feel as threatened or in danger as I did all weekend long. I've never felt so relieved to leave a city.
One time while walking around in Vegas some random dudes walked up to us and said, "Do you guys know who this guy is?" pointing at one of their friends. I said, "Nope." They went on and on about how he was the best boxer ever and was up and coming and kept asking if I wanted to fight him. Yeah, you've got an idea of how annoying a single interaction can be and if you were to spread this out over four or five days and also have your hotel room be a place where you can't find escape due to people running up and down the halls at all hours yelling, fighting & screaming.

Much better. I give this rant a 8.5/10. High points included:
-In depth socio-economic analysis
-Constructive criticism of social programs
-Illustrious anecdotes
-Immersion in the pure misery and anger
Areas in need of refinement:
-Not enough swearing
-As well done as it was, it needs just a bit of off-the-rails vitriol
While my experience wasn't completely ruined, New Year's pretty much put the lid on any desire I have to return there. The very first five minutes of arriving at the hotel, we noticed that it was hosting the "National Beer Pong Tournament". This meant that groups from the frat bros, welfare socialites, trailer trash, and middle aged losers were all congregating under the banner of alcohol. Immediately after checking in, we witnessed some hoodrat trying to instigate a fight with some frat douche (shouting at the top of her lungs, mind you) before we even got on the elevator. It was an omen. Fuck Vegas.
It was definitely New Years when those guys asked me if I wanted to fight their friend so I could have a full understanding of just how famous he was.

My hypothesis is that Vegas is now some sort of Mecca for the worst of the social media generation from L.A. and Phoenix. I remember thinking that wearing a suit was basically par for the course and being surrounded by people in tank tops and snapback hats at the tables.
Almost makes you wish the mob was in control of Vegas again.

I've never really liked the place and I've been there a lot. Years ago ( in my single twenties ) I would go to the Hard Rock to hang out and flirt with girls. The pool was definitely a hot spot. After a while I realized the demographic of people who went there was changing and the only thing that was important was money. The Hard Rock is just as bad as everyplace else now on the strip. It's a city that brings out the worst in people. Greed, lack of impulse control, gluttony....I can't stand any of it. I won't even go to bachelor parties there. Everyone wants it to be "Swingers" or "The hangover" when in truth it's more "Leaving Lost Vegas". I'm my opinion it's just Los Angeles East.
