Anyone do stair railing work?

Getting ready to get the house on the market in about two weeks and we'd like to do some quality touch ups on the railings, where the cats have scratched them.

I don't want to replace anything but I want to do more than just rub some minwax on it. If you do or know anyone who does this kind of work please reach out to me. We had a guy we've worked with in the past quote it, but he recently had a couple of big jobs come up and isn't available for 6 weeks and we need it done much sooner.

Let the buyer deal with it . In this market for every nit picker there will be 2 others ready to "make you an offer" Besides you'll need to strip and refinish, with most GC's out months, as you already know.

Any painter worth something should be able to touch that up.. however working in residential construction I agree with Kazoo.. based on what I see in new homes no one will ever notice it in the first place. Take a matching colored wax pen and fill the scratches and rub them out.

What you need to be concerned about is whether or not your house has the cat smell.

LOL on the cat smell piece, we actually invited a couple of neighbors who don't like cats to come in and see if they could smell them so we should be good on that front. Before the house hits the market all signs of the cats (other than these scratches) will be gone to one of the parents houses.

We're at a pretty high price point which is why we'd like to get things as close to perfect as possible.

No suggestions/recommendations . . . but your post reminded me how much I am dreading redoing ours. Need to sand/stain the railings and replace the wood balusters with iron. Never done it before, but I hate the idea of paying someone to do it more than I hate the thought of DIY'ing it.

DIY scares the crap out of me but here's how a similar sounding upgraded looked at our old house. This was the guy that was going to do our rail work now but I understand a job like this takes precedence over some sanding and staining. Took a total of 1 showing to sell the previous house at full price after the upgrades, with other feedback I think we would have had multiple offers even though it was 2011.

Thought about that and we're happy to do it but I don't want to necessarily point out that it needs to be refinished to everyone who comes through. Choosing finish could be hard too, quote to do this piece is $700 and the other half is perfect without any marks.
