Ok after having some trouble with Leupold scope mounts on my Savage 10fp I went beefy with a Warn Picatinny base and Burris Extreme rings. Now that the scope is securley held in place I can't get zeroed. I'm shooting about 2 inches low at 100 yards. I have no more adjustment in the scope. In one of my hunting rifles this was fixed with a shim under the scope on the front or rear ring. This doesn't seem like a good fix to me more like a band aid. How can I correct this other than shimming the scope?

You can get a base that is angled, 20MOA is the most common one.

I've seen bases that needed to be reversed to get the correct alignment.

I imagine the rail could be out of square as well.
Try reversing the rail.

I will try reversing the base as my first step.
Originally I didn't want the 20 MOA base because I was worried that I wouldn't have the adjustment to get "down" to zero at 100. Figures now I have the opposite problem and the 20 would have worked.
Would lapping the scope rings have any affect here?

Can't reverse the base because my savage has the rounded front and flat rear. I did put a shim that I had in a drawer that came off a Remington 700. Hole spacing was same so it went in under the front of the base. I can't see this thin shim getting all that elevation in the scope back. Need to go shoot and see what happens.
