My firing pin sticks in the bolt. Is boiling it really a good idea? Anyone done it and want to provide pointers?

Boiling will remove cosmoline and can't possibly hurt your bolt, but it might screw your pot used to boil it.

Seemed to work pretty well. It's an old pot ;)

I usually just use carb or brake cleaner then make sure a light oil is applied and wiped off. my2cents.

I restore alot of old cosmo'd rifles. Just use brake cleaner and spray liberally from one end of the bolt and let it run through. Let dry and repeat several times "just to be sure". DO NOT APPLY OIL TO A FIRING PIN! The oil will gum up over time and cause it to stick. This condition will become evident when you start to see a few light primer strikes.
