What is your preferred muzzle device and why?

Troy Claymore-because it shoots fire and is cool. [Beer]

Fire is pretty cool. I shot a friend's Lone Eagle pistol in 30-06 right at dusk and that thing threw a fireball the size of a Volkswagen.

KX3 on the 7.5" for obvious reasons and SliencerCO Brake on the 11.5 for suppressor.

SF brake.

That way I can run my 556 mini.

A can for all the obvious reasons. Because I have more guns than cans, I do have a couple of brakes. I hate anything that makes a gun LOUDER, but seeing impacts is worth it.

Battle comps so I can run suppressed as well.

Some gothic thing (Knights?) because it looks cool and is just sharp enough to stab a fool with if necessary.

I really like my can, obviously, but before that I was running an SJC Titan Brake, the rifle pretty much didn't move with recoil.

AAC brakes/Flash hiders because I CAN....

And a few A2, and some Rock River brakes.

The AAC flash hiders are reportedly very effective at hiding flash, but they sound like a tuning fork when I fire a shot, or close a bolt.

AAC QD FH also ring a lot. Switched all but one now over to combo but the new 556 can will reduce the likelihood of running naked.

So my answer is AAC Brakeout combo QD FH. :-)

Before the cans, I had the Vortex 4-prong on a couple rigs.

I had a couple linear compensators built. It may add a touch of recoil, but it is a lot quieter to the shooter, as the gases and noise is still being pushed forward.

Here's an interesting comparison. The bare muzzle isn't too bad considering it's on every barrel.

Wow, interesting videos.

I have a YHM can on one AR, a Fortis RED on another, a Tactical Innovations can on the 15-22, and a YHM muzzle device/adapter on another. I've got a Lantac Dragon sitting around waiting for the next build.
One does one want a bit of variety...

I like the YHM annihilator. It looks really, really, cool on my 7.5 inch 9mm AR. Plus it leaves really, really cools marks on everything that it touches. Seriously the most ridiculous freaking thing I have purchased. However, it does point the blast and sound forward.

Here is a pick for reference.

I have a BattleComp on one of mine. Very effective comp but also pretty loud. Every so often it also throws a good size fireball which isn't great.

PWS on my SBR, great adapter for the HALO.

These for some Form 1 suppressors

as well as this

HOWEVER for an unsuppressed 16" or shorter AR this has been the most effective, least noisy, better shot follow up

Thanks, Jim. I almost forgot about one of the PWS muzzle devices I used to have. It's the KAC556. Not much longer than a standard A2 but worked pretty well all around.

My favorite though is the Lantac dragon don't have one cause I'm not ready to dish out over 100$ for the muzzle break just yet I'm working on a trigger upgrade first but when I do I am going to a Lantac dragon and they have that new muzzle shroud that is supposed to hide the flash
