Have any of you had so much ammo of a certain caliber, and you did not own a gun in that caliber, that you actually purchased a gun just to shoot all of the ammo?
Sort of. Way back when they were cheap I bought a Chinese SKS. Bought lots of ammo for it because it was really cheap back then. (Wish I hadn't shot it all up. It was the steel core Norinco stuff.) Sold the SKS and since I still had the 7.62x39 laying around I decided I needed an AK to burn it all up.
And recently I picked up a 9mm carbine since I already have ammo and mags for it.

Yes, i have x K of 45acp components that appeared in a deal for some reason. So i ordered a Ruger SR1911 and just received a 45 conversion for my JRC 9mm carbine.

Nope but resisted getting a .40 S&W because I didn't want to stock yet another caliber until I got a smoking deal on a M&P Shield 40 ... then I had to go stock up ...
That is exactly why I bought a 9mm conversion barrel for my G22. I had several thousand bullets and brass and I figured what the heck. Now I have more 9mms than .40s and I hardly ever shoot .40S&W anymore when that was my main caliber for years. I also bought .308s to shoot up some ammo and brass I had acquired.
I will say I have never been tempted to buy anything in 380 even though brass keeps sneaking home with me mixed in with my 9mm brass.
A guy gave me a steering wheel once so I had to build a truck. Does that count?

Yes, I have.
I'm only reading this thread to find out what you got...
Yep...hate to admit it, but thats how I ended up with 9mm.

Yes I have done this and I have also broken a holster and bought a new gun instead of the holster.. Literally a couple days apart! Sometimes you just have to buy yourself something :-)

Kinda doing the opposite, I have a gun I want to sell, but its the last in that caliber I own. I don't want to sell it until I shoot all my reloads. 500rds to go, need to have a range day with friends.

Yup, bought a 30.06 bolt gun to shoot 300 rds of free ammo. Bought a couple thousands rds of another caliber, but had to buy the rifle he had for sale too to get the ammo.

I buy ammo to justify the gun purchase to shoot it.
I have a bunch of .45 just waiting for a 1911..
I ended up doing this with .270 and that is how I got into reloading. Bought a rcbs single stage press and the guy had a bunch of stuff that I bought as well hundreds rounds of brass and bullets. Sold of what I didn't want or couldn't use and bought a rifle in .270.
Yup...Marlin 1895 in .45-70
