Awesome dude! Congratulations! We had our first, a girl, last September. Have a big party, not a female-only baby shower.... We held one, the price of admission was a box of diapers. We had three van loads going home. We still have more in the next size up. My wife's brilliant.

And go garage saling for baby stuff and clothes, check craigslist for nursery furniture, etc. we have top of the line taste and saved thousands already, not joking.

Congrats! Don't buy anything new. Craigslist and garage sales are your best bets. My wife and I went crazy buying new stuff that hardly got used when the money could have gone to more diapers.

Congrats! We just had our first 10mo ago, all I can say is unless the baby's going to sleep in their room right away don't spend a lot of money on a crib and stuff, instead get a good pack and play they can sleep in. Also if you and your wife's communication skill need work better fix it now or your going to be in trouble like me and 90% of all people who have babies. Get lots of sleep and do all the shooting you can like a lot of people have already said. Good luck if you need advice there are a lot of dads on here with great advice! God bless!

Do not buy new anything, especially a couch. Kid puked on the couch, and mom first day she was home. Also, don't laugh when they puke on mom while she is sitting on said couh. Unless you like sleeping on the couch the kid just puked on.

What to buy? Baby wipes by the case from Costco.

Congrats and enjoy!

Baby wipes will change your life.
Spend money on diapers, but don't go crazy buying them, especially small ones, because they will grow quicker than you can use them. We pulled a whole bag of infant diapers out of storage because I bought too many trying to be ready.
I agree with not buying anything new, except bottles and other things that go in their mouth. I remember trying to learn which nipple types to use for which ages.
You'll learn a ton of stuff, then forget it all by the time he's two. Congratulations.

Get a recorder. This way when your spouse asks you to do something, you get it on tape. SO.................. 6 months or 6 years later when she says I NEVER SAID THAT. You have proof she did. believe me it will save you a lot of https://sp.yimg.com/ib/th?id=JN.86hMs1G1odQJ8Je31RZF%2fw&pid=15.1&P=0Ask any of the guys with kids.

CONGRATULATIONS! Patience IS a virtue, Diapers and formula WILL not be needed forever, They will grow fast and it will be sneaky! Like from 7 then they're 13. No shit! Also learn to LOVE LOVE LOVE repetition.

.. And yes, that is your dad in the mirror. If it wasn't why word the words from your mouth sound so much like his?

Have fun! It's a Hoot!

Congrats, our first will be a year old in October. Sleep is likely a thing of the past for quite sometime. One thing that we did and will dr again is limit the number of visitors to the hospital, we had less than 10. More time for you to bond and birth wears out most women.

If you end up using formula I can't say enough good things about what we call the baby kuerig, http://www.babybrezza.com/store.php/formula-pro/formula-pro/ , bottle is less than 30 seconds b

Congratulations! :)

It's garage sale season, so now is the time to scoop up on baby clothes.

I'd suggest picking up things that are time/energy savers for you both- I have a feeling you'll have to re-figure everything from meals to showers. Crock-pots and rice cookers are generally things you can find at yard sales and will save you lots of time and grief.

I'd also start buying baby-proofer things- those plastic bits that go into plugs, bumpers (or pool noodles) for sharp corners, and those little doohickies that keep cupboard doors closed are what come to mind at the moment.

Congrats!

Our first little one is almost 1.5 years now. Definitely get lots of sleep now, because you'll never get the chance again. We're ecstatic when the baby "sleeps in" until 7am.

One of the best things the wife did was order diapers from the Honest Company (https://www.honest.com/). Order diapers online and they ship them to the house. Lots cheaper than buying at the store, they throw in packages of wipes for free, and they have some cool patterns like skull and crossbones and stars & stripes.

We also networked with friends and family who are having babies to start a round-robin of clothes, shoes, toys, etc. We get the hand-me-downs when their babies grow out of them, and we package them up and send them on to the next person who has a baby when our little one outgrows them. I don't know how much money this has saved us, but we haven't bought a stitch of clothing yet, and his dresser is full of clothes.

The wife got on this site called varagesale.com as well. It's a bit like Craigslist, without all the shady business. Tons of toys, strollers, baby carriers, etc. for cheap.

Things that have been essential: blankets & flannel PJ's, humidifier (a loud one for white noise), milk trays for freezing breast milk (http://www.toysrus.com/buy/accessories/breast-milk-freezing-trays-5510674-4033361), and a camera of some kind kept in a conspicuous place to catch all the cute shit they do.

Good luck! It's a total pain in the ass, and a hell of a lot of fun.
