I need to do something with my wife's dog. Its a little Shiba Inu. In the house, he pretty fun. Once a child leaves the front door open, he's gone. Chasing people and barking at them on their walks. Its embarrassing. I'm waiting for someone to shot him.

Any advise on collars? There are tons of em from $40 to $400. I'm not looking to spend a lot, but I do want it to knock his dick in the dirt when I push the button...

Thanks.

Their customer service is outstanding. Had an issue with the collar 1.5 yrs later. They sent us a replacement free of charge, we also have the Bark collar.

We use it on the pups when on the road and there's a dog run or someone property to have fun on. Or when working them around the yard, especially since they're runners. IF the gate looks open off they run. A ZAP or 2 keeps them in check.

While a good training tool, it's no substitute for hands on training. Not that it's a 100% deterrent to a dog who likes to bolt, which is where the sportdog collar works..

FWIW: perhaps something similar for the kids till they learn to CLOSE THE DOOR.

My lab needed shocked exactly once. He has a better memory than most dogs. If he sees the collar, he snaps to attention like a good soldier. Sport dog is quality.

These dogs are smart. You might have to put flags up for a while marking the border of the wire.

x2 on the Sport Dog line . . . we started our GSD off on one early and he's been very good. We don't have to use it very much, but it's good for correction if he's just being thick-headed or extra excited for some reason.

Not sure why, but I found that amusing.

The dog should not correlate the correction to the collar. Have the dog wear it for a while before ever turning it on. It's called collar conditioning. Get a training book on using them. If the dog doesn't know the command, then the dog has no idea why he's getting shocked.

I need one for my six year old son.

The only time I've ever drawn in public was when I was running and a dog jumped off the porch and ran across the yard into the street to get me.

Same kinda thing here. We had an issue just after the warranty expired and they still replaced it for free. Great customer service for sure.

This is going to be a bit crude so if that offends you, don't read on.

If you want your dog to come when you call him, you don't need to shock him. You need to jerk him off. Once you do that he will come running every time.

I once had someone tell me if you don't jerk your dog off or eat your wife's "cookie" he could come to your house and take them both from you.

That said, if you're getting one make sure you get one with a warning tone. The last dog I worked with after about 2 hits from it didn't ever need anything more than the warning tone. Its kinda like a mother that counts to 3 before unleashing the backhand swat to the ass.

I think I'd opt for the shock collar anyway.

Just a thought - I just spent $600 on the Canon City Prison training program for my German Shepard / Border Collie evil genius puppy (this dog could get out of a crate that was zip tied). I figured after spending $3,800 on replacing my floors (he just loved ripping up carpet), I might want to spend a little more on the behavior. He was gone for a month, and they did a really incredible job with him... including the separation anxiety and some aggressiveness. The trick is you have to behave differently too. I learned quite a bit, and I've had dogs my whole life.

Anyway, it was recommended by two friends of mine, and it worked really well for me. We still have the training (pinch) collar that they gave us, but he rarely needs to get popped with it now. He even learned a few new tricks like crawl, wave, etc while he was there.

My hunting dogs have DT systems collars. Variable levels of shock, they work great in all weather. And our little dog is a PITA at times. Anytime she sees the collars come out and gets on out on, it's a whole other dog. They learn fast that the collar means absolute control and they are on their best behavior.

Sport dog. Comes with a booklet for assistance in training. We used it on our dog for maybe a month. Now I can call her off a rabbit running right in front of her. She'll wait for the ok command. Remember, reinforce that when either you tone, shock, or both, she knows that returning to her safe zone (you) will stop the discomfort. You don't want to set the shock so high that the dog bolts, or yelps. Mine doesn't even need the collar at all anymore. Best $120 we spent.

Yes, That is Ripley the Ridgeback. He does not like getting in the shower. A buzz will put 117 lbs. in the shower. Shock is no longer needed.

Nothing to contribute, never needed a shock collar, but every time I hear someone say Shiba Inu I can't help but think of this:

That's my dog in a nut shell. He's very handsome and well behaved IN the house.

That said, a Sport dog will be here by Friday.

That is again for the input.

Please make sure to read the operators manual before trying it on your dog.

I suggest you put that thing on your own neck and try it out before you try it on your dog. That will put into perspective the difference between setting 1 and 10. That being said I have a bark collar on mine when he's outside, yes I tried it out.

I've never owned a dog so I wouldn't have a clue. Lol.

I'm not exactly what I you would call an animal lover.

I don't want to hurt the damn thing, just want it to listen.

That's why I'm going to put it on my wife first to see if she'll listen.

Just an update.

Well, its been awhile with the collar. We used it for a couple week. 3 tops. He didn't give 2 s&its about it. He'd run when it was on high, without looking back. Not sure what happened, but as of last week, he don't run away anymore. Don't even need a leash! He goes camping, hiking, fishing and for walks with zero problems. Not sure what got into him, but its awesome! Anyway, thanks for all the help.

Shiba Inus are smart, stubborn little stinkers. I'm glad that he's come to his senses. I bet he learned all of the commands that you taught him, long ago...and he just recently had a scare that made him decide to behave himself.
