View Full Version : BEAR ! ! !
There I was, taking a dump, and a Fn bear stands up outside the bathroom window.
Biggest sombitch I've ever seen!
Came up on the back deck, pulled down a hummingbird feeder that was eight feet off the deck, broke it and began lapping up the sugarwater.
He was at least three feet wide sitting on the deck.
I tapped on the window and he ambled off into the woods.
Still shaking.
Won't sleep.
Neighbors said there were no bears up here. Fn liars.
DAMN!!!
I am not a fan of bears - or anything else that can kill and eat me.
Keeping the 450 SOCOM next to the bed from now on.
Damn I hate bears.
Lucky I was on the toilet.
Keeping the FAL in the bathroom now.
Lol. But bears are such cute, cuddly creatures.

sissy! When I was archery elk hunting last year i heard WOOF, I stopped and thought thats weird sounded like a dog im in the middle of nowhere land... I took one more step and heard WOOF again and the hair stood up on my neck as i realized 1. it came from behind me and 2. it was most likely a bear because if it was a lion i would have already been dead. I turn around and 20 yards away is a beautiful cinammon colored black bear approx 200 lbs so not real big but definintely cool to see. Black bears arent anything to worry about unless you mess with their cubs, they are wounded, or YOU KNOCK ON THE WINDOW AND SCARE THEM :) JK. I would mark that up to a cool sighting unless you have munchkins then I would be a bit nervous!
Awesome. What's the big deal?
I'm still confused why it was lucky you were on the toilet...

I was driving thru a neighborhood in Littleton and looked over to see a bear walking down the sidewalk...I did a double take. Yep...bear. It was right near a bunch of parks and a greenbelt. Figure he came in thru it.

I've seen bears on my property dozens of times and every single time they just walk or run off as soon as they realize they are not alone. I've had them on my deck and the moment I look through the window and he sees me he bolts into the woods. There is very little risk of one hurting you if you keep your distance and don't f*ck with them.
Please don't panic and blast a bear just because he's there. Be careful, of course, but don't overreact either.
Haha! I had a bear IN my living room at 3am when I lived in Florissant. Luckily when I went to see what the comottion was he bailed out of the same window he crawled in through. Scared the crap out of me!

We see a bear or two in our "yard" probably 4 or more times per week during the summer. They're far better neighbors than people. They're quieter and all they ever want is to borrow a cup of sugar water. Learn how to live in bear country. Keep your trash secure, don't leave food in your car outside and remember to bring in your hummingbird feeders.

Great advice.
Don't be leaving any pic-a-nic baskets laying around.....

Now the same story from the perspective of the Bear:
There I was, pulling down a hummingbird feeder that was eight feet off some guys deck in Florissant (I just pulled some old jerky meat from a cache and was looking for some sweets)...
And here I saw, taking a dump, Biggest sombitch I've ever seen!
He was at least three feet wide sitting on the John!
I tapped on the window and he ambled off into the bathroom. And came back with a gun!
I left when I saw that!
Still shaking.
Won't sleep.

To quote DOWs position re: bears "if you shoot a bear out of season or without a license, you'd better have claw marks on your ass"
Got lotsa bears. Fun to watch em.

Other than the occasional tipping of trash cans, bears are mostly harmless around the house (unless there's cubs). While bears are capable of killing and eating you, most of the time they'll leave you alone and go away when you yell at them (again, unless there's cubs involved ... or they're starving, which is real rare).
Black Bears aren't all that aggressive. That doesn't mean you should try to pet them.
Honestly I'd rather have bears as neighbors than Democrats.

^For the win!! Bears are just misunderstood. C'mon, we just need open dialogue, some sensitivity training, some understanding and then we can all coexist!

This was going to be my question. Assuming you get that one bear who wants into your home at what point can you defend? Does make my day type situation apply or do you wait until he's chewing on your skull?
Come up to Asspen,,see all the bears downtown.
Watch the evil photo taking tourist try to get REAL close.
Or the kids trying to hit the bear with a stick, tag your it.

A year or so ago there was a woman here in La Veta who heard noises in her kitchen and found a bear trashing it. She tried to shoo it out and was severely mauled and in critical condition. Trust me, if I find a bear in my kitchen and I can't scare him back out I'll make a good bear out of him. I'd either take a dead paw and use the claws to tear my jeans or fire up my tractor and bury him on my 35 acres.
BTW: DOW says you cannot kill a bear or mountain lion attacking your dog since they are considered personal property and not livestock (I'd need to fire up the tractor again)

Chances are if you have to kill a bear (or mountain lion) you're either going to be in town where people aren't really going to question whether or not it was a "good shoot" (nobody is going to assume you were poaching in a city park) or you're going to be out in the the country where the 3 S's apply.

This girl:
http://kdvr.com/2014/07/07/park-county-teen-takes-action-against-an-invading-bear/
was made out to be a hero by the press. Most people around here think she's an idiot. This happened just across the highway from me.
Bears will be Bears. But the CPW has no fuk'n idea how to handle them.
Make loud noises, bang on pots and pans: this makes a bear climb a tree right next to your house and stay there for 16+ hours.
Clean your BBQ grill, never ever in 30+ years had a bear care about wtf was ever on the grill.
Bears like birdseed, they like hummer food, they like other types of pet food etc.
I have had coffee on my deck with a bear that just seemed to like the view across the valley of Mt Evans, not interested in any thing else including me.
Critters are critters, we can'/don't know how to predict what they will do. So just enjoy them, hunt, fish and realize we are in their habit.
Short story I was fishing the Shoshone in May (spring run off), a big boar grizz came out on the opposite side about 20 yards, water was very fast too fast for wading. So he kept an eye on me and I the same. he knew water was too swift for him so he sat and watched. Of course I moved on.
black bears aren't that bad. I've seen one on the trail and sure i turned and went the other way but its rare a black bear attacks. usually only if completely surprised.

Davsel, I shared your story with my best friend and his wife who live about a mile (my guesstimation) north of Hwy 24 in Florissant. Here was her reply:
"Neighbor down the road just msg'd me that we have a bear. No news there, but she said it killed a PONY. Might be the same one he saw. DOW will be out looking for him tonight."
As cstone often reminds us: "Be safe"

A pony? Sure it wasn't a big cat? I find it hard to believe a black bear would go out of its way to kill such a big animal, but it's possible I guess.
As far as a bear INSIDE my house.....it'll be a rug in short order.

If your neighbors told you there are no bears in Florissant they are not very bright...to put it nicely. Place has plenty of bears.
Black bears are nothing to worry about. Occasionally they get into something they shouldn't (car, trash, occasional house) and make a mess but it's because someone left it open and/or left food out.

Maybe the neighbors didn't mean the animal ... maybe they meant large, harry homosexuals?
