Anyone here know if it is NOW legal to drive a pick up truck on the Chicago Outer Drive ( Lake Shore Drive).... Many years ago PU's were not allowed on that route. Back in those days Illinois PU's had a "B" prefix on their license plate and those were not allowed on the Outer Drive. Does that restriction still exist?[blaster]

I have a small pickup with truck license plates. Can I drive it on Lake Shore Drive?
No. You cannot drive any vehicle designed to carry freight or other commercial goods on Lake Shore Drive--or on any thoroughfare designated as a boulevard-- even if you are not using the vehicle for that purpose. If you are coming to Chicago on I-55 to attend a game at Soldier Field, you may drive a truck on Lake Shore Drive from I-55 to the Soldier Field parking lot.

My God that's the most retarded thing I've heard today. No wonder Illinois drivers are such assholes.
There are highways in New York that restrict commercial vehicles, even school busses.
Worked in Chicago many moons ago, bunch O retarded people. But they had great jazz and booze, and horny chicks.
If the weather is nice and it's the weekend Lake Shore Drive is the last place you want to be. I was there a couple years ago in the spring working on a project and made that mistake on one of the first nice 80 degree spring Saturdays of the year. I've never been stuck in anything that bad before, skier traffic is a cakewalk.
Traffic wouldn't suck half as bad in the Chicago metro area if there weren't fucking toll booths every 6 feet along all the interstates...
^ truth. And say what you will about Chicago drivers, at least they don't have a cell phone glued in their ears as they try to kill you going down the road. Unlike here.

You literally can't take a school bus on the Westside Highway.

But unlike trucks / commercial tags. They can go on the L.I.E (495) & the S.O.B (seaford oyster bay) expressway.
