When I was a kid, the doohicky on the barrel that made a gun quiet was silencer. I don't know when the accepted terminology changed, but it's now uncool to use that term. "Suppressor" is, at least until recently, was the word the high speed crowd used to describe the same device. I've noticed in recent months that a few people and manufacturers are now calling them "moderators".

It makes me think back to what we used to call people with physical handicaps (see, I'm doing it right now!). The earliest name I remember is "cripples" followed by "handicapped", my personal favorite "handi-capable", "disabled", and "physically challenged". I have no idea what's accepted today. I can't keep up.

I wonder what we'll be calling silencers 5 years from now.

Probably ILLEGAL

Or Mandatory. You know how totalitarian regimes love their binary rules.

This would be a perfect way for the gun grabbers to make things difficult: Require suppressors for all shooting, while maintaining the NFA process. Yes, you can purchase a new gun, but you have to purchase a suppressor for it(registered, naturally), wait 4 years to receive said suppressor due to the backlog at ATF, and pay an extra $200 if you actually want to shoot said firearm.

I've only heard the term moderator used on smaller suppressors that don't really give what would be considered full suppression, for example the TBAC PSS, CB5 and other short suppressors.

This is a Moderator, which the ATF in it's infinite wisdom then reclassified as a NFA regulated item.

BEFORE THAT DECLARATION WAS THIS item. Once a wallet holster then reclassified as a NFA item requiring a $200 tax stamp! It cost me $38 and took 10 minutes to cut it up rather than pay the feds for it.

I call them Silencers. I didn't pay a 200 dollar tax to own a suppressor.
