Looking to take the wife.. City girl, and son 2 years old for a mountain vacation... Would love to take the dog too but probably won't happen unless you guys come through with a nice cabin rental place.. Even though the wife is a city girl she still likes to fish and do outdoor activities but I couldn't talk her into camping and I suppose especially this spring it may be a bit too cold... We are heading up the 3rd or 4th of June and coming back June 7th.. Those are the 2 places we have looked at going but if you have better ideas I would love to hear them as we are struggling to put this together!
thanks for any help!

Ha i can't... If I went there I would go scouting where I elk hunt... I wouldn't be able to hold back I would be too close! Beautiful area though!
The wife and I were planning on going to Glenwood Springs around time as you are. Hotel prices for the weekend were $400. A little much IMO. Still trying to find decent rates. If we do end up going, we're definetly traveling to Rifle to have lunch at Shooters Grill. Ouray is a fun town especially if you like off-roading and hot springs.
Buena Vista, Salida. lot's of hot springs and many pet friendly.
Google Mt Princeton, it will bring them all up.

I'll check them out mtn. Shooters grill would be an eye opener for the wife :-)
Glenwood springs. Amusement park, caverns, and Polish food. The trifecta of v time.
Vega State Park. They have some cabins. Just like camping but for city folk. There is a lake there to fish in. Oh, and there are nice bathrooms with showers within walking distance of the cabins so the women folk are pretty happy about that. There are small refrigerators and a microwave in the cabin as well and the cabins are heated. Pretty sure the allow pets in a couple of the cabins too.
Here's a link.

Just between the two, I'd go for Glenwood Springs. As far as I am aware, it is the most expensive of the everything mentioned so far. If you're basing this vacation on the pool facilities, it probably has the most to offer. Of everything mentioned though, I think Ouray manages to offer great pool facilities in addition to lots of other things to do at a reasonable price.
Took the wife then gf to pagosa springs, did a whole package and got a message and all kinds of other stuff. Good eating, fun little shops, and if you stay at the hotel where the hot springs you get 24hr access which is relaxing at night. Plus your close to the outlets in NM.
Monument Lake on highway 12. Its on Spanish Peaks. Cabins, dog friendly. Rent canoes. Scout for Critters. Interesting geology. La Veta is nice. Trinidad is interesting. Decent walking trails.
Not that far from NRA Whittington center.

Which time was more fun? My wife would not let me take the gf without her going along.[ROFL2]

I would say Sleepy Cat ranch in Meeker but not sure if they are open still been a while
+1 on Glenwood Springs for the hot springs pool (http://www.hotspringspool.com/) ($18 ea.) and the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park (http://glenwoodcaverns.com/attractions.html). Last week we took a mini vacation for a couple nights in Glenwood. I'd never been to the caves and adventure park (http://glenwoodcaverns.com/attractions.html). I enjoyed the cave tours and the guides were good. Nothing as grand as Carlsbad, but still interesting.
Great views from up there. We didn't do any of the rides but the alpine coaster looked fun. Your son is too young for the rides but the tramway, maze and old west theme park might be fun for him. The park is accessed only by the tram, $14/person; $26 includes the cave tours. We had 50% off coupons.
Take a drive up valley to Aspen. There's a good Indian restaurant (Nepal) toward Carbondale, and a good sushi/sashimi Chinese place in downtown.
Stayed at the Ramada ($75/) and helped police catch a serial car thief. He's still in jail. Fun times.

Earplug it says the dogs can't go in the cabins or the lodge? It says they can be there but not go inside if this is true that is lame...

Been there many times. Interesting crowd. We usually camp overnight. Not much to do there but soak and maybe do the spa thing, though.
