View Full Version : Punch me in the face
My god I have the worst toothache ever, I cannot describe the pain! I have tried everything, now trying Jack Daniels! My dentist is booked til Thursday, I need some advice cause I am about to take a hammer to this damn thing!
There are topical stuff that might take the edge off for a bit, but you may have to tough it out for a few days.

You might try one of these, if your dentist can't get you in.

clove oil may help... a little
Ask dentist for referral. Personally, I think your dentist is a asshole for not reliving your pain.
I do too cause I am not usually a bitch like this when it comes to pain but damn this hurts. I just started a new job so no insurance too! Yay me lmao

THIS! Use a Q-tip, soak it with clove oil, and put it on the gums next to the tooth. Only apply it for about 15 minutes at a time. Also try to not swallow too much of the oil as it may irritate your stomach (i.e. spit out your saliva).
The clove oil has a numbing effect and kills any bacteria.
You might have an abscess. It will be a lump on your gum by the tooth. I had one a few years back and it got so big it ended up popping and draining the puss out. Tasted like shit but my tooth felt like a million bucks after that!!!
If its abscessed I've heard you can pop them with a sterile needle and get the process to speed up a bit.
Your probably going to get a root canal and you want that thing dead first before they do that.

Anbesol actually works pretty good. Liquid form. Saturate the entire area.
Otherwise, find yourself an ice skate....

odd question, but do you have a cold or your sinuses are clogged up? I have had sinus pressure so bad my gums were swelling over my teeth. Hurt like a mofo!!! Went to the dentist only to find out my sinus on my left side was jammed to the max due to a cold. Wasted my money seeing the dentist.
No no cold I wish lol, been trying to sleep but that's worthless. Why do I get clove oil at?
Walgreens. Holding a bit of hard alcohol on the area works a bit too.
Second on the ambesol. Find the strongest one you can or the baby version if you can't. Was the only way to get teething kids to relax.
Good luck. It's messed up your dentist won't squeeze you in. I'd find a new one that would.
Ambesol was what I was thinking of, but kept typing Ambien.
I'd go to a Comfort Dental close to you. They usually can work out payment plans for those that don't have insurance, and may have Care Credit applications that you can fill out. They also may be able to squeeze you in.
Your dentist sounds like a jerk. Bite him or leave him.

If they pull it make sure you get antibiotic's ............
3 years ago I ended up in the ICU for 3 days over an infection from a pulled tooth. Talk about shitty......
Got the tooth pulled on a Thursday ... By Sunday I could hardly breath. The ER docs couldn't believe I drove my self in my O2 levels were so low. They debated going to surgery to drain it because my airway was so restricted.

Copaiba essential oil. Better than clove oil! Use both together if you can get them.

Cut the clove oil with olive or canola oil 2-1 with 1 drop of clove oil - 2 of regular. If you don't the clove oil may burn the area. In fine print on most clove oil bottles it advises one to not use full strength on mucus membranes.
IF you think there's some infection a 50/50 H2O2 & H2O mix for gargling / rinsing the mouth can help.

I can't believe a dentist doesn't have emergency appts.- mine does. Good Luck.
When I had a cracked wisdom tooth, I also had to wait to get it removed. He couldnt give me vicoden because of work, so the dentist told me to take 3 ibuprofen and 2 aspirin every 4 hours. He also advised to not take it for more than a week as it's very hard on livers. I don't hardly drink, so he said I'd be fine. I was able to work, and function with no pain. Meds were cheap and over the counter.
Before your pain began did you have sensitivity to cold or hot that lingered for a longer period that what would be considered normal? Did you have sensitivity to pressure when you bit down? My wife has been an assistant for an endodontist (specialist in root canals, apico's, surgery, etc.) for almost 15 years now so I've got pretty good at diagnosing tooth pain over the internet over the years. lol

Just like Hillary, you could probably start pulling teeth now!

You just HAD to steal my thunder! Hahaha
On a more serious note, that sucks about the tooth. Maybe copious amounts of alcohol until Tuesday?

Op has my sympathy. I had a tooth go bad earlier last year that was pure hell. Inescapable pain for over two days, nothing helped, dentist misdiagnosed it at first. Was the worst pain ever, hope he has it all resolved.

I still remember organic chem lab when we extracted eugenol from cloves. Smelled like pumpkin pies cooking at Thanksgiving.
Eugenol is old school. Works well for a bit. If is a crack or filling/crown that has fallen out there is a kit you can buy that you mix zinc oxide powder with the clove oil and pack the open area so the nerve is not exposed.
Anyone with pain like this it is important to get on top of the pain as soon as you can. Keep taking something on a scheduled basis. You can take ibuprofen three times daily (total dose of 3600mg) or naproxen twice daily (total dose of 1500mg) and alternate some acetaminophen for breakthrough pain.
Hope you feel better now.
I have some aftershave that has clove oil in it. Burns like a sunovabitch, but the wife says I smell like a cookie all day.... Lets just say it is worth the burn.

Yup, Clove oil works wonders as a numbing agent. Burns more than the Ambisol though.
