It's about time. Scheels is coming to Johnstown. I don't now how many of you have had the pleasure of entering one of these stores but I know Incant wait. for those of you who haven't been to a Scheels, they are like a Dicks sporting goods, or sports authority but with a gun and hunting department twice that of Bass pro shops or this weak excuse for a Cabelas in Thornton. At 250,000 square feet it will dwarf Cabelas that I believe comes in somewhere around 80,000 sq/ft. Their reloading department was always well stocked aside from the struggles that everyone has had of late, with an awesome selection of anything you wanted. Slated to open in 2017 but it should be pretty nice.

Hell yes! I was in one in Montana last year and they had H4350. I asked for 2 lbs and he said "that's it?" I assumed it was like Colorado. So I walked out with 10 lbs!! To bad its so far from me!

Great, that makes what 4 "sporting goods stores that carry firearms , not including Liberty Arm's indoor range. Those streets are going to run with blood. As well as the flood of liberal common sense gun safety moms tears.

Sounds like from article a fuckton of revenue for Johnstown. I wonder what the affects will be. Still miss Milliken/Jtown.

At i25 and 34 was always boggled that the little strip with culvers was considered Jtown not loveland. So another 10 mins further than originally thought.

It's one of the reasons JTown fought hard to keep the extended boundaries / annexed land they sucked up years back.

Always good to get another gun store in CO.... Just wish it was not so far North or that they were opening two. Maybe the flood of people will get them to open a second one.

I bought my first hunting license and first box of shells from them in Sioux City, IA as a teenager.

Love the store. I hope they hold true to their values in this market.

Good news. I like Scheels a lot. That area will have lots of choices with Dicks, Scheels, Bass Pro, and Sportsmans Warehouse.

I like the store and the selection, but as I recall they like MSRP an awful lot.

The one in Sparks NV has a Ferris wheel inside

Sounds like Baier's tavern which is a real hangout for Packers followers.

Their gun prices I've noticed were a little higher but every thing else is right on par, especially their powder. And this one coming to town is also reported to have a 65' Ferris wheel.

When I was stationed at Minot and Great Falls there was a Schells at both locations. I found some screaming deals at both places. They dealt in both new and used and were not afraid to buy big collections.

One of the best deals I got from Scheels was a 30-40 Krag in almost new condition. The staff was having a meeting so there was no one on the floor. I wandered in right at opening and went back to the gun counter and there sitting on the handgun case was the Krag and the paperwork with the purchase receipt. They paid the guy $400 for it. About that time 2 of the staff came out and asked if they could help and I asked how much for the Krag. Since I kind of caught them with their pants down so to speak they put the normal markup on it and I got for $469.99. I knew the gun manager fairly well and he was pissed when he found out what they sold for he already had it sold for $1100.

In Minot because of the the tax laws after the first of the year they would start marking old inventory down 10% per week or so until it sold. So it became a waiting game as to how far it go before it would sell. I got a lot of stuff, mostly ammo and reloading supplies for little or nothing. The common items would sell quick but I've always liked the obsolete or oddball so I would get some great prices.

If Scheels hasn't gone the way of Gander or Cabelas as far as pricing and selection I think you all will be very happy. The local small shops won't be happy though.

I think a lot of people see Johnstown and think Johnson's Corner. This is directly southeast off of I-25 and Highway 34. Scheels has an incredible selections, almost too much stuff, but their tax rate is pretty terrible with the "Public improvement" BS, and I've never been impressed with their pricing.

What's all the hubbub about Scheel's? Do I need to go?

Eh. I’ve been in a few. Just another big box store. I’ll probably buy as much from them as I do Cabelas or Bass Pro which is practically nothing. The indoor Ferris wheel was kind of neat to see.

Have you been to Sportsman's Warehouse/Dicks/Bass Pro/Cabelas? If you have then Scheels is just more of the same.

I wasn't impressed with either their selection or their prices.

Scheels will price match there competition. I got some 10mm the other day and they matched academys price which was 6$ cheaper per box. If you have kids the ferris wheel is a must.

Their gun cases are stupid. Black cage mesh like material making it impossible to see the guns clearly. Very annoying.

I went in there a couple of months back, looked at their guns and ammo, eh.

Their prices are pretty much MSRP on everything.

LOL, no, they have more variety than BP, sell EBR's and don't panic if you are open carrying.

They do have some neat firearms and a great variety. I really like their gun area layout. Classy. Just hate the gun cases. The restaurant is laughable at best. Reminded me of a lame cafeteria at a health clinic. Lol.

Supposedly, Scheel's is going to build a second Colorado store in Colorado Springs on Interquest Parkway east of I-25.
Scheuled opening is April 2021.

This feels like the most relevant post so far, thanks. I see a store name and I don't know if it's going to be Sportsmens or Gander Mtn and I'm not the type that goes to places just to go and find out.

Yesterday I went to Sportsman's Whorehouse, the first time in many years. They lost me years ago when they couldn't afford to stock the shelves.

They've come back, reasonable selection and prices.
