...would you like him or her?
This thought has occurred to me on occasion. All of our really special, unique dogs have passed so we're "down" to three dogs now, all JRTs. All were rescues and all had issues of one sort or another.
One was born deaf and has also needed several eye surgeries. He's lost one eye and can't really see out of the other. For all his handicaps he's pretty high-functioning and doesn't require any special attention. But he acts totally stupid most of the time. He's a total PITA just due to his personality. Really, his only redeeming quality is he's extremely protective of my wife...as much as a 16 pound JRT can be, anyway.
The youngest was badly abused (to the point of needing surgery on a leg) before being abandoned at the local shelter. When we first brought him home even just looking at him would cause him to piddle. He was frightened by everything. But, we've had him 4 years now and, while he's still fairly timid, he no longer piddles. He's still really needy and has some annoying habits but he's probably the sweetest dog I've ever seen. Our female terrier is his hero and I really think he'd be lost without her.
Our only female is a really strong-willed alpha dog. But she doesn't really know how to be an alpha dog...it's like she's always out to prove something. She gets along fine with male dogs but won't tolerate another female at all.
So, while I love them all as dogs, I don't think I'd like them as people.
Tough to say. I'm shocked how much my dog loves me. She follows me every where, especially after a run. She'll be panting hard for an hour after the run and won't just go lay down and rest. Instead, she'll make sure to sit or lay some where that she can look right at me.

Exactly. In a dog, it's endearing. But can you imagine having a girlfriend like that? I can't.

I don't know but I really want to say I would.
We have a German Shepard/Border Collie mix (we think) and a Border Collie. Both were rescues so we're not sure. We got the mix as a puppy and she is a great companion and I'm sure the reason our house has not been broken into. The other we got as a nine year old. She needed a couple of surgeries but is a good dog. They are now 12 and 13 and still get around for being so old, although they spend a lot of time sleeping. I guess the reason I would not like them as people is that they are seem needy. As dogs though, they require a comparatively small amount of food, fresh water, exercise, and occasional medical attention. All the other love and attention is a bonus (they get a lot). They give us their everything.
I think the reason we love dogs so much is that we don't have to like them as people.
There are people I love, and there are dogs I love. Dogs make it easy to love them because they are simple and overwhelming in their affection. People...not so much.
Drop some food while you are eating, intentionally or accidentally, and you have made a dog happy. Do the same thing around most people and I am lucky if all I here is; "It's OK, we all are clumsy from time to time."
If I had to be stranded on a desert island with only one person, it would be a dog. [Coffee]

Have had my heeler since he was 8 weeks old and we were constant(24/7) companions for the first 4 yrs. For the last 9 yrs he has been at home protecting wife and family while I worked.
According to my wife, the dog and I have identical personalities and are in general a pain in the ass but good to have around.
He is without a doubt my best friend and I think I would like him but would still have to kick his ass on occasion to remind him who is boss.
If my dog was a human I think she would be a complete slut. She is the most well minded, and kind dog. She does whatever she is told to do and is Loyal as hell, but if someone even looks like they might pet her she will ditch me in a heart beat to go get loved on. I honestly would like her as a human though, all she wants to do is hunt birds and chase rabbits, and ride in the truck.
Let's see - two fat girls that always lay around doing nothing, and beg for treats when I get near the kitchen, hmmm.....
I don't know, was Marty Feldman a likeable guy?

Golden retriever? Lol

No she's a lab/shorthair cross. They call it a Hybrid retriever.

Oh...a green dog!
(She's a very good looking girl!)
Bailey your a good man. I have had several shelter / abused dogs and they all need a lot more care and understanding then any other type of dog. I can only imagine what your house is like with 3 JRT's! My one JRT is enough, of course my wife would like a puppy. They are awesome, smart, protective and STUBBURN dogs but I wouldn't trade ours in. As for liking him if he was a human, all I can say is I bet he would be the funniest asshole ever (next to dear ol dad [Coffee])

Yeah...I love Jacks. They're too smart...and stubborn...for their own good sometimes. Smarter than a lot of people I've run into.
The owner of my JRT got rid of him because he didn't get along with others, could have fooled me. Don't get me wrong he hates cats and squirrels but he gets along with his brothers. Btw Jack/Corgi mix has an interesting attitude in a dog.

Yeah...my female Jack (Lola) "loves" cats and squirrels. She got hold of a feral cat last year...pretty ugly way to go for the cat. She hasn't managed to catch a squirrel yet...but it isn't for lack of effort.
I love Corgis. I had a rescue Corgi for 3 years. She was 6 when I got her and she'd lived her entire life in a cage at the home of a "breeder" who was in reality just a hoarder. I brought her home and she didn't even know how to walk on grass. She was terrified of everything. Inside of a year her life was completely turned around and she was one of the happiest dogs I've ever seen. She died from kidney failure just before she turned 10. But the last few years of her life were happy.
BTW: your links/attachments didn't work.

Ive got a great pyr who thinks hes a toy poodle. Nothing like a 100 pound dog that wants to sit in your lap. I dont know what he would be like as a person, but he would have made a great toy poodle.

Nice she is a great looking dog. My second guess was gonna be a lab!
My Jack was a rescue and had personality issues because of it. I think as a person he would be ok, kind of like living with Rain Man. I never knew a dog could be that smart. He always hung out were he could see me but not bug me. But when he saw the wife coming home he would come and get me to come with him to the door because he knew we were both going to get fed. He could recognize her car coming at least two blocks away. He loved the car ride home from the rescue but never wanted to be in a car again. I always believed he thought if he got in the car we were taking him back to the rescue to leave him. In the end he had health issues. We spent close to 9K at the vet to keep him alive, and I would spend three times that much right now to have him back.

Yep...I've had a few like that.
I had to nip my dog in the face today to remind her who is in charge. I also made it a point to carry her home an entire block for the same reason. She's still in her kennel.
Our girls would be spoilt teenage princesses...
My Chocolate Lab "Dude" who just passed would have been my running for the last 15 years.
He joked around with me all the time, we like the same things, getting out, hunting, fishing, hiking, camping. Good workout partner too
He was a great wing-man with the ladies and could chill on the couch, watch the game without excessive talking and discussion.
Lastly he was laid back and very friendly but didn't take any sh#% or tolerate a bunch of BS.
ya, I would say he would be a good mate.
Griff
I sometimes pretend my dogs can talk and try to figure out what their voice/dialect would be. I base it off their general manurisms and what not. But that's about as human as I wish they'd be.
My one dog would be great, quiet, well behaved, excited about life most of the time.
the little female Lhasa apso would really piss me off if she could even talk. She is very sweet then all of a sudden she turns into a dumbass, does what she wants when she wants and looks you in the face while she's doing it. She would also talk back all the time, and she would be a little whore as well. I'm glad she isn't a human!
